(NoTR) How much LP should be saved for a mage character?

I’m a long time vetran of gothic games. When I heard about the english expansion night of the raven I had to go and buy it. Anyrate I’ve heard that LP is a bit more valuable in NOTR versus vanilla gothic 2 and that one has a be more careful about using skill points. I’m wondering how strict should I be in creacting my mage character? I’ve already spent a few LP on weapon skill and I’d like to build up weapon skill a little bit but I’m not sure if should try to save as much LP as possible for learning magic instead.

In vanilla gothic 2 my mage character could not only use all spells but had more than full mana (over 400) He was also decent with a one handed weapon as well. Would it realistic to have strong mage with weapon skill in NOTR or is it best to become a mage as quickly as possilbe and waste no LP on melee skills?

LP is harder to get in NOTR but there are more items that build mana. I got my mage up to 250 mana with no training at all, just tablets, rings, amulet, potions, etc. You need over 200LP for spells and tablet reading but it's better IMO to concentrate on dex and bow for the first chapter because you won't have any magic except for scrolls. By ch 4 I had 90 dex which allowed use of a decent bow which reduced some of the need for mana. Mana will always be in short supply even if you train and have 350; better to reduce the need than scramble for potions which seem to be a little scarcer than in regular G2.
