My friend can no longer play Gothic, it fails to load and says something like this:

Gothic.exe linked to missing DDraw.dll:DirectDrawCreateEX

He has a 533 Athalon on Win 98, 256 Ram, and an 8 MB video card (could this be a problem?), and at least 3 GB for a swap file. His Gothic.ini has been modified so fog is disabled (by me). His drivers are up to date.

Gothic working before, but was foggy. I told him to modify the code. However, due to a virus, it was in the shop (perhaps this is why the file is missing). I did modify the fog line of code today, but it would not start.

Insights?

Thanks

Tell him to reinstall DirectX8 and DX8 compliant drivers for the (ATI?) graphics card. Or, even better, download updated drivers for everything, format and reinstall a fresh windows. Who knows what else has been corrupted.

btw., did you find out how to move threads, delete posts and threads, etc.? If not, you can mail me.

Thank you, I shall tell him to update the DX drivers, but I don't think he will reinstall Windows until we are done filming a movie for school (editing and uploading).

Yes, I have found the buttons near the bottom, silly me.
