Mod's, remakes, anything like Wizardry 7?

Hey all,

Wiz7 was one of my favorite all-time games.

Nowadays I find myself itching to play something similar with just as
big a world. I played Wiz8 a long time ago and that was good but didn;t
seem to have quite the same magic as 7 did.

Anways, with all these user-created content out there I couldn't find anything
on Wizardry projects out there.

Anyone know anything different?

p.s. What ever happend to Grimoire?

You might think about the Might and Magic series, particularly MM6 and MM7. You might also want to take a look at DW Bradley's Wizards and Warriors. Personally, I found the latter to be a bugfest of epic proportions, but some people really loved it.

That's kind of my problem.

Being an RPG nut I've pretty much played all those games. The Might and Magic series I've pretty much stayed away from the later incarnations.

Gave Wiz and Warriors a try as well but it just had poor controls otherwise it may have been OK.

It might just be me, but I wonder if DW Bradley has lost his mojo a bit... with all this new technology out there it seems like he has had trouble finding a niche for his games. He's an excellent storyteller otherwise.

Yep, bottom line is that there's not much out there for "old school" RPGers right now. About the best I can offer are the MM Tribute (in development) and Wiz9 (strictly rumors at this point).

The new version of The Bard's Tale might be worth a look when it's released. Brian Fargo has quite a reputation.

A less well known game that is pretty good is Prelude to Darkness. It doesn't have fancy graphics, but it has solid game play and character development and lots of quests. No Umpani, T-Rang, or Umpa-Lumpas though.

I would also recommend the Genforge or geneforge 2 from spiderweb software.

And I also recommend ToEE to anyone and everyone, if for nothing else in hopes they buy it and Atari has enough of a return on investment to let Trokia make ToEE 2.

Also, in case you haven't played it I recommend Jagged Allaince 2. If you buy wildfire (new mod that costs like $20) you get the original also. Not really like wiardry 7, but it is great in its own right.

I've still never palyed Wiz and Warriors, I can probably get it cheap when I have more time to play games.

From what I have seen it is not an RPG, it is pure adventure hack n' slash like BG:DA. Console crap.
