Gladiator is a great movie. Good enough to overcome my Russell Crowe irritation (although I'm not questioning his brilliant acting ability - he's just a #%$!).

Great movie. It's a perfect example of "creative license" done well, because the movie's plot only tentatively follows the real historical events. (For instance, Marcus Aurelius was never killed by his son. Aurelius died from sickness, while campaigning against the encroaching Germanic tribes, who threatened the borders of the Empire.) But the plot, attention to detail, atmosphere, masterful directing, and powerful, talented actors transfigure it. Ridley Scott took what could've been a mediocre movie and made it into much more. He has a habit of doing that. I have as much admiration for the director as for the movie.

I heard that Richard Harris, who played Marcus Aurelius, wouldn't even have read the script to a movie named Gladiator, if it hadn't been Ridley Scott who came with it.

@Lawanda: If I remember correctly, the Macedonians conquered Greece.

Yes, the Macedonians did conquer Greece in 334 B.C. Then the Romans conquered both the Macedonians and the Greeks around 140 B.C.

Yea, Gladiator is a killer flick! Killer music also. Of course this was directed by Ridley Scott. He did Alien, 1492, and Blade Runner...the coolest Sci Fi flick in existence.

If you like Gladiator you should try his other period piece 1492. The only complaint I have about this Columbus movie is that the guy who plays Columbus is French. It is a killer movie though...I wish it was on DVD. It also has music by Vangelis(who also did Blade Runner).

Not only that...Ridley's next project is Kingdom of Heaven. This is going to be a movie about the Crusades. I can't wait!!!!!

hey I think that movie was the best movie that Russle Crowe acted in because I have so many of his older and his newer movies and they don't compare.

The gladiator was indeed a good movie. Not historically correct and certainly not for the languages, but I think most of you are intelligent enough to have figured that out.

BTW, Spartacus -> Bartacus. Now you know where I got my name from.

Best movie there is!

Nothing compares! Sound track. Cinimatography. Acting. Action. Story. It is perfect. At first I didn't like the tragedy ending but the more I watch the more it is appropriate to me. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Maximus killed many innocent people as a Roman general so it is a fitting end.
