Beta reports?

Are the player's currently testing beta's (Shadowbane,AC2) allowed to post thoughts & opinions on the game? I'd love to see impressions of these games so far.

I'm currently testing AC2 and the NDA is pretty strict. Pretty much all I can say is that I am testing it.

I would love to discuss about it and tell things whats it like and whats it not but we can't

I hope they lift the NDA soon because many are waiting for information about AC2.

I don't think they'll lift the NDA until they end the BETA, which usually happens a few days before the game hits shelves...

I am currently testing Earth and Beyond. Not exactly sure what I can say, I haven't played it all that much yet anyway. I'll say it is much prettier than the screenshots seem to demonstrate.

Well, a whole lot about the game can be found on fan websites, so for more specific information I would recommend looking there. They are probably much more familiar with the NDA than me. I will tell you some general impressions, however, and if you have any questions feel free to ask, I'll try to answer them if possible.

The game is fun, I am playing it quite a bit. I chose a character that focuses on exploration, stealth, and assisting others more than actual combat. There are three areas of experience where you can level up in, and combat it only one of them. Thus choosing an exploration character still allows me to gain levels and abilities without having to constantly fight battles that are hard for me because I don't focus on combat skills.

That is all I will say for now, but definately ask any questions you may have about the game.

Do u know when it'll be released? What are the system requirements? I'll probably have more later.

As for release date, I have no idea.

System requirements I think I can help on, though:

OS: Any Windows
Processor: PIII 500 MHz
Memory: 128 MB
Hard Drive: 1 GB
CD Rom: 4x (why do they even list this anymore?)
Video: DirectX 8.1 16MB minimum
Sound: DirectSound Compatible
3D Video: DirectX 8
Modem: 56k or greater.

My system is faster than the required, and the game runs smoothly. There is sometimes some lag, but it is minimal, and probably network related. The game runs a slick utility to choose all of the best settings for your system to run the game optimally. It did a good job picking my settings.

By the way, I got that info off of the beta test registration site, which you can still register to beta test at. the site is http://ebweb.westwood.ea.com/preview/beta/index.shtml

The release date for Earth and Beyond has been slated for September 17th... so pretty soon

Because there will always be some idiots out there that will call the company to complain because they have this old CD-Rom in their computer and never changed it... If it's there, it's for a good reason

My guess is it would actually work with any CD-ROM, however if they have to walk through someone on a reinstall of the game in tech support they don't want to have to sit there while a 1X CD-ROM takes 60 minutes to read the data.

As for my rating... that is hard for me to say at this point. I have only played one character type, and it IS only the beta. (Some things will likely change, most notably the players of the game, and the in-game population) If I had to rate it from my current experience I would probably give it a 7 out of 10. For me that is a good rating. I am definately having fun, and if time and financial issues didn't exist I would probably buy the game after the beta is over.

Comparing it to the other MMO's I have played, I would rate it somewhere between Ultima Online (Still the best, IMO) and EQ (Wasted too much of my life for something not all that fun). Closer to UO, though.

Not a bad score. I was wondering, how much is the fee?? I hope it isnt too much, that would just stink.

Oh, and can you tell me the specs of your sytem, just to give me an idea. I'm shopping around looking for a new system so maybe this might help me.

P.S. Sorry for all these questions, I'm a very curious guy.

Sure thing:

AMD 1800+ XP
768 MB Ram
Geforce 2 MX400 64 MB (I want to upgrade it though)
SBLive Value
DSL Internet

Runs fine, but as with most games coming out a new graphics card would supplement it well.

PS: Ammon777, I personally thought UO was great... ahh, memories.
