MageofFire is correct, Lester was thrown in for killing two guards who tried to arrest him. He's a confessing psycho  . Milten was thrown in for a) deserting the King's Army and b) stealing an apple.

It's in the pre-release Gothic 1 comic book (see this thread's first page). There the four meet for the first time, and two of them tell their stories.

I guess Gorn where thrown in as a result of brawling.
I have always thought that gomez was working for the king inside the barrier (shomting to do with the ore transports)
Hmm im curius about Lares, wolf and saturas.
