Gothic 2 Preview @ UGO

UGO have posted a hands-on preview of Gothic 2 to keep US readers entertained while they wait for the release there. The article starts with the rather dubious proposition that Grand Theft Auto 3 has inspired a new era of games with living worlds but does improve from there...sort of:
Gothic II definitely surprised me. I went into the demo expecting another generic fantasy RPG, and I came out really looking forward to October's release of the game. The concept of recreating a living game world might seem a little GTA-ish, but who cares? It worked so well in that game, so who wouldn't want to see it in a completely different venue, like a fantasy world? Sure, there may not be prostitutes and Mafiosos, but who needs them when you've got elvish princesses and orc lords? OK, all of Las Vegas needs them, but I think the rest of the country is ready for a little variety.

What this reviewer is missing is the fact that Gothic 1(out before GTA3) was also an interactive world and Gothic 2 is just expanding on that theme.

"expecting another generic fantasy RPG"

Is there no connection in the reviewers mind that Gothic 2 might be related to Gothic 1?

That would require that he has heard of Gothic I in the first place.
I doubt it... heavily!

Conclusion: The author is "Out of Gothic (II)"!
