Enchanting help.

Please help me with my enchanting questions.
I have a cool helmet and a very expensive soul gem.
How do I enchant it? Does the enchanment hold a spell.
My skill level is very low does that affect the enchanment? If I fail do I destroy the gem? How do I get a soul into the Gem? Does the quality of the soul matter?

Ok there are two ways to enchant stuff.. 1. do it yourself 2. pay to have a enchanter guy from the Mages guild to do it for you. #1 seems to always fail for me with my enchant of 18... #2 is massivly expensive but will always succeed. Hmm It might be worth spending all that cash to train yourself in enchant rather than paying for someone to echant an object for you though.

Anyway either way you need an item that can hold the enchantment and a filled soul gem. A filled soul gem can be purchased or gotten by successfully casting Soul Trap on a creature and killing it before the Soul Trap spell's duration is over. You must have an empty soul gem in your inventory when you kill the creature who has Soul trap cast on him for everything to work correctly. Quality of the soul affects the number of points you will have available for use by your enchantment when you enchant something using it.

Thank you very much. I think after I finish my next quest I will work on enchanting. Since it's one of my skills I need to do it anyway.
