For me, it's Rammstein, System of a Down, Coldplay, and old grunge stuff like Soundgarden, Screaming Trees and Pearl Jam. I'm sort of forming the old geezer attitude ('they don't make music the way they used to') even though I'm only 26. |

I feel the same way, and I'm six years younger. |

I like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Bathory(their non-satanic metal songs), Kittie, Autograph, Joe Satriani, Gwar(some of their earlier stuff), Iced Earth, Guy Mann-Dude, Steelheart, alot of game music such as the music from Shadows of Cairn(a little known and underrated pc game from the early 90's) and alot of 80's American pop music. |

Heh. I translated most of Du Hast for a friend and he didn't like the song as much. Guess some songs are better left untranslated.

You translated Du Hast? I thought this song was 100% untranslatable. |

You
You hate
You hate me
You
You hate
You hate me
You hate me to say
You hate me to say
You hate me to say
And I did not obey
Will you until death does sever
Be upright to her forever
Never
Will you 'til death be her rider
Her lover too, to stay inside her
Never
...Ok now everbody sing the chorus

Well, Jaz - 20 years ago I din't like Japan that much. And even now I can't say I am a fan of them. 20 years ago, I liked Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, and usual suspects like Pink Floyd, Yes and the like.
My interest in David Sylvian startet with "Gone to Earth" - his first solo album. Since then, I am always looking forwad to his new releases. But apart from the music, it's the being I am interested in. I think he is one of the few occasions where a soul starts to shine in a man
Other than that, I like acid jazz and older (80's) Jazz (Garbarek, Ralph Towner, Weather Report, even Doldinger's passport)

See, Rendelius, I liked Japan then, but David's solo stuff was too... heavy for me . I preferred what Mick Karn did, that was more my idea of pop music.
Hm, I didn't like Yes then, but nowadays I like Rick Wakeman !
Max Killen: ...near miss .

Max Killen:
-----------
In the first part Rammstein uses their favourite style element, a difference in the written lyrics and the meaning of the vocals (==> pronounciation).
Du hast... (You have...) ==> Du hasst/haßt (You hate...)
The second part are marriage formulas.
(The translation may sound odd, I´ll try to stay close to the German structure )
DU //You
DU HAST //You hate!
DU HAST MICH //You hate me!
DU HAST MICH GEFRAGT //You have asked me.
DU HAST MICH GEFRAGT UND ICH HAB NICHTS GESAGT
//The _complete_ line means:
You asked me and I said nothing.
WILLST DU BIS DER TOD EUCH SCHEIDE
//...till death you do apart
TREU IHR SEIN FÜr ALLE TAGE
//...abide her for all days...?
NEIN //No!
WILLST DU BIS DER TOD EUCH SCHEIDE
//...till death you do apart
SIE LIEBEN AUCH IN SCHLECHTEN TAGEN
//.. love her also in bad days?
NEIN //No!

I guess you could say I like a little of everything.
I love classical - Tchaikovsky rules!
Golden oldies from The Ink Spots and Louie Armstrong to the Beatles and the Mamas and the Papas. In fact I was playing some the other day and my Mom asked me to turn the music up. Now there is a rare occurance.
I used to work at a bakery with a bunch of people who loves 80s music and they got me hooked on that too. Tainted Love is a classic.
And then of course I've loved Metallica and Scorpions since junior high. Then there's the Alternative stuff that I like now, like Linkin Park and Stabbing Westward.
Hell, I even have a patriotic CD done by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that I listen to on the 4th of July.
The only stuff I don't listen to is rap and country music. That stuff is just evil. |
