Piranha Bytes' Nico Bendlin has made an announcement regarding the official patch (a beta patch was released around Xmas last year already) for the German version of Gothic 2 on the <a href="http://forum.jowood.de/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24403" target="_blank">official boards</a>. According to this thread, the patch will be version 1.3x and offer a lot of changes, especially in the Sound/Videosystem and fulfill some wishes by gamers, for example a short cut key for adjusting the line of sight; the patch needs thorough testing, so it may take more time. Save games will be compatible, but playing on with old save games is not recommended. |

You see, I told everybody it would be great to have to wait for the english version a couple of months until every problem is fixed. The english version shall have all the fixes of course...us Germans make excellent beta testers...we did it for Arx Fatalis, and we are about to do it again for Gothic 2 (which is really almost bugfree already)! A call to publishers worldwide: Sell your games in Germany first, we beta test it for free, no, actually we even pay for it. |

I've been saying that to my American friends for awhile now,but they don't buy it. They would much rather "test" the product with us. |

Gothic2 does have some nasty bugs that invalidated savegames - I ran into that twice and that was quite a showstopper. Their blasted customer support never even answered me. the beta-patch in turn seemed to cause problems with the copy protection for lots of people. They really should come out with a decent patch by now, grumble. Beta tester indeed. But hell, its worth it, its all worth it... |
