GothicDot G2 Guide enters full production soon!

We´ll start production of our Gothic 2 guide soon. The result will be a downloadable .pdf. We intent to make use of the obvious advantages a .pdf has over a standard text document: structure, accessibility and pictures.

A brief concept overview:
  • Quest list, structured in one or more ways.
  • Hints for every quest.
  • Solution for every quest. Multiple solutions if possible!
  • Maps for everything, from locations over NPCs to important plants.
  • Pictures showing switches and traps.
  • Intro text for each chapter.
  • Solution text for each chapter.
  • A brief 'survival guide' explaining the basic game mechanics.
  • A summary of the most important cheats plus a few well chosen waypoints.

Focus is on short, precise infos, avoiding spoilers unless necessary.

We would like to hear your thoughts on the project. Please post in this thread.

Help is also very welcome. The German communities have shown that big projects like this can lead to remarkable results if enough people participate.
It doesn´t matter if you want to work on a single one of the ~140 quests or a whole chapter. Every participant will be listet on the credits page.

When we can clearly assess how much time it will take. It will easily be 1000-2000 single pieces of info. This has to be coordinated to avoid double work (=loss of time).

The more people help the sooner it´s finished. The German communities have no problem recruiting a dozen people.

Okay, thanks.
This will a be very helpful. We already have a waypoint list we can use, supplied by Ariakas. You´ll have to try many of them - not all because the system is obvious - and shrink it to 30-50 places. After we´ve agreed to standards for maps a map with the remaining waypoints has to be made.

Thanks. This is 10-20 % of all quests.

Anybody else?

I maybe can participate with some quest solutions. How detailed should a solution be?

Yep. One map for each world, so it´s either two or three maps (I don´t remember if there was a map of the Halls of Irdorath).
First we have to standardize the maps to one style. 20 different maps would look amateurish.

Okay, thanks.

As detailed as necessary, as short as possible. Wasting words on trivialities doesn´t make sense IMHO.
Most quests are pretty simple while a few can be really complicated. Take this 'buy a pan from Canthar' quest at the begining. Many different solutions with a connected quest and consequences depending on choice.

How come

Are you with JoWood or not? I went through a lot of quests in Gothic II and the game seems to be very well organized even though some quests are intertwined and are strongly timed.

I assume the guys responsible with the story can give you a logical layout of all quests. I personally would definitely enjoy helping you with this matter but it seems like reinventing the wheel if you don't go directly to the source.

GothicDot has no connection to JoWooD. RPGDot some to their PR department. But what does the JoWooD PR know about Gothic 2? They are only the publisher. They´re paid to move boxes and do marketing.

Piranha Bytes could give us those infos, but why should they? If they felt like investing working time in it they would write and publish a hint book themselves.

That aside you´re very welcome to help us. The more people the faster it´s done.

Short update: We´re in internal discussion at GothicDot right now. Should be over in a day or two. Then we can start.

Well then...

My vision of a Gothic II quest book is as complex as the script. It would include the main quests (listed in the quest log), hidden quests (like returning a `Statue of Innos' to Edda in Khorinis's harbor district), and extra tips (like jumping the monastery walls in order to get inside and pillage the place). They would also be grouped according to what guild you are part of (you get a rune stone instead of a `ring of invincibility' as a magician from the trader in the upper quarter).

It would be quite a shame if those nice fellows responsible with the Gothic II story didn't offer their support, because it would yield the same result with much more effort.

If there are any deadlines or format restrictions we should know of, please tell us. And unless this project falls through I'll get on making a list of what I can contribute to this quest book, and would help regardless of what your vision is.
