compared to the preview version i played in january, i'm afraid not much has happened that falls into the eye of the player:
-still no automap
-still no music
-still limited sound effects
-game still needs balancing if i take the demo ofr preview version
-voices are added, but the voice of the messenger is ridiculous for example
-still no automap
-on two-screen systems the mouse moves out of the game into the 2nd desktop and if clikced here causes a task switch, which crashes teh game, same as in my preview version

what has been added:
-option screen
-title music
-new menus

of course, many things may have happened under the hood...still, i hope dreamcatcher gives heuristic park enough time to polish the game

Played for about 10 minutes. Got attacked before I could equip anything, won that and equiped what I had. Tried to work out how spells were used and got attcked again. Fluked a fireball, but then couldn't get sword back either. No time to heal, or figure out controls before I was finally killed. Why would anyone buy this mess? How can someone with Bradleys reputation release this? At the very least it needs a tutorial section so we can learn the interface before we're killed. Hope he reads this and fixes things before the release, or there won't be many people buying it. It's currently on my maybe list and slipping fast!!

You start in a field and an NPC hails you. Suddenly, some wolves attack and you mash the left mouse button in the general direction of the wolves.

Please fix the links. They take you to the download for 1986's Eye of the Beholder.

By the way, there is no mention of the demos release on the Dungeon Lords official site...Could it be that this garbage is a leaked press preview edition?

i like the game so far.
- the graphics are better than those of kotor (the resolution is perfect, who needs more! and i am using a 21" monitor)
- the setting in the beginning is very atmospheric
- i kinda like the voice of the messenger (it just doesnt sound like a bearded guy.. )
- the combat has a steep learning curve, but like in gothic i think it will be worth it (had to use the revive button a couple of times...)
- the lockpicking system is neat (ok its a minigame which counts on reflexes of the player, but this way you always have a tiny chance to pick that lock, just concentrate and try again hehe)

what i dont like:
- how do i know what a specific skill status or skill upgrade give me? i need more statistics! or is it shown in the buttom left of the char screen?? have to check again!
- too many respawns (which apparently can be changed in the options menu)
- the damage / remaining hp bar which appears when i damage a monster is too tiny. i thought there would be floating numbers above the heads of my enemy?
- so far i dont really know when i hit a monster / damage a monster / totally miss a monster.. sometimes a cloud appears when i attack.. is this hitting, but no damage dealt?
- it takes too much time to go from inside the game back to the starting screen (when i click "quit game")
- no automap, which will be implemented later i think (i saw screenshots of it, and in the helpscreen it mentions the "m" key for it, so...)

so far i really like it and will definately buy it.

Who said fighting in this game is better than in Gothic?
Dungeon Lords is horrible, so far.

Which links are broken...I checked all of them? It's definitely a valid release for various reasons, including the fact that HP staff have posted hints.

I'm going to try again later but I get killed before I can even think about anything and I've happily played the Gothics, Arx, Morrowind, Bloodlines and many shooters - so I'm fairly used to action combat (even if it isn't my preference). Tried lowering the difficulty and respawn frequency but I couldn't see a difference - more stuff that doesn't work?

Frankly, even if the combat improves, I'm not sure I can (or should) accept a game where half a dozen mobs get stuck on an immobile NPC who stands there with no reaction. Shouldn't we have advanced beyond these design points by now? Is that too much to ask of an "RPG" in 2005?

Yes, it looks better than KotOR. So?

ive had a lot of fun with it so far. going through the sewers
seems great to me.

an automap seems like a must though i got the feeling of being lost and backtracking a lot. wizards and warriors had an automap.

to ready your weapon again you need to hit q. it takes a while to get used to it.

i would like to see it in higher resolution but i really liked the graphics actually

the npcs are indestructible that was part of wizards and warriors also. sort of weird. it even has the pre patched bug of you not being able to shut them up once they start talking. really old school wizardry interface with npcs, not using the fallout conversation tree but using the wizardry/ morrowind key word type thing. strange choice.

i like the character building and the skills and spells
it has the gothic magic casting system where you ready a spell and cast it.

A big negative towards the demo is that I see no farting skills to develop. A must in today's rpg's.

Update. I sat and played the entire demo this evening. You get a message at the end that won't go away, so I had to Ctrl+Alt+Del to get out!!!!!!!! The beginning is by far the worst. Once you got used to the game, it improved. The sewers weren't bad, but the timing is still terrible. The War Troll was definitely tough; I emptied nearly all my spells into him before he went down!! If they bother to fix up the glaring problems, this could be a good action RPG; like Dhruin, not my favourite genre, but with persistence it is playable. If someone my age can do it, anyone can!!

I played the demo for a few hours last night and almost gave up at first, but it gets better when you upgrade your skills. I set the screen to 1024 x 768 and turned random encounters to less. This helped some, but I still hate stuff coming out of nowhere and attacking you.

The Lockpicking gets better when you put a couple points into thief skills, then I got 60% -95% chance to open chests that were 10% and I could see the symbols before disarming it too.

Read the help and learn how to do everything. Make sure you put spells into the shortcut keys 1-9 because it will save your life. (Health Crystal and Health Potion are a must to have as shortcuts.

Pros:
- The environment outside looked really good with the the swaying trees and grass.
- You can see the armor change when you equip it
- Duel wieling was better and I could still use a small goblin shield on my arm
- Lots of spells, weapons, and skills to choose
- Crystal spells replenish after time because I used the health one a lot
- The lighning Crystal spell was fun to use and looked really cool

Cons:
- Too many respawns reminds me of online game
- The sound effects were pulled from Wizards and Warriors. You would think Bradley could at least update his sound effects.
- Monsters seem to get stuck sometimes
- I sure hope the final has the auto map else I will be lost forever in the sewers. Especially when you have no compass.

Overall it wasn't too bad, but it does need some polishing. I play Guild Wars first and then try Dungeon Lords.

I can't find a way to properly uninstall it. It didn't even put handy shortcuts on my start menu.

I still haven't found a way to pick up looted equipement or talkto NPC's.

Why is there not a way to set turns with the keyboard and forward movement with hte mouse. that's just dumb/annoying.

So far, cute for what looks like a console game. It has Bradley's trademarked surround the enemy tactic but I'm definitely uninstalling should I find out how. Anyone else have this problem?

The graphics look good, but I'm not feeling very impressed here.

The mobs of monsters are tough, and the interface to switch to the spells you need to win some fights is clunky. That said, I enjoy the game, and like all the skills and progression available. It would be nice to be able to boost the graphics some, but it is locked at 800x600 despite my best efforts to change it in the options menu.

Looking forward to release, despite some of the scathing critique leveled here. Hell, if the UK Gothic Gold comes through my game time might increase for the summer

The graphics look like they're 5 years old. Compare to recent releases like Doom 3 and Half-Life 2, and you'll see that they're shit.

"the graphics are better than those of kotor (the resolution is perfect, who needs more! and i am using a 21" monitor)"

You're out of your fucking mind.

Dhruin: he was joking about the links being messed up.
