Exactly, camps are much more fun than a few big cities. In G2 you always went back to Khorinis to get stuff. In an interview PB said they wanted to change that to make you progress through the world instead of coming back to the same place all the time.


The size of the camps in Gothic 1 is however for me something to make it acceptable. I sometimes think that Onar's farm was a bit to small. (I don't take Busters place and the two other farmers in account for this)
I also think that there should be one city as big as Khorinis -> We are going to the mainland and have to see the capital. It would be kinda weird seeing Khorinis as the only large city of Myrtana.
In this matter I think that best thing is to have 3 capitals for the 3 regions. They don't have to be huge, but big enough to make it believable.
