It has been some time since I saw that Infogrames, now Atari, had picked up
Gothic 2 for international distribution. I haven't seen any release dates
yet... Are there any? perhaps even a release quarter.. i.e. quarter 4
2003 or something? I can't wait to pick up this great title!

A overly- enthusiastic fan,

So there we go. We get to rot for another 4 months before we see this fine game.

Not necessarily, check the other threads in this forum. You will find a thread titled something along the lines of "Attn: US fans of gothic 2" or something along those lines. In short, it contains information about a UK based retailer that ships products internationally; one product they will be selling next month is Gothic 2. Rest assured, if the given UK release date holds I will have Gothic 2 shortly after its release there.

Hmmm. Very interesting. Note that I can now be analytical about this (instead of raging mad. ) since I am getting the game shipped soon from the U.K.

If they are waiting until October, do you think they plan to release it with the expansion pack that is coming? Could the international releases be a sort of "test the waters" kind of thing? Maybe North American Atari is simply swamped with other stuff and G2 is on the back burner.

Think about it though, if it *is* released October 7th like the representative says, that will be nearly 11 months since the original German release. I understand that Gothic took about 6 months from its German release to come to America. The big difference there was that nobody was waiting for that game and it just showed up -- taking us by surprise. In a way, ignorance is bliss in this regard. Someone who is oblivious to the Gothic world will pick up G2 in October and have his world rocked.

And beleive me, nothing tops that "first time" experience for anything that you really like. You are always trying to get that feeling back.

I have seen those UK release dates, but I am waiting on those to prove true. For now the only rock solid info I got back was that letter from Atari. That would be the US release, but if UK holds true... I know where my order is going!

As Gorath has posted before, www.atari.com.au lists G2 for an Australian release July 18 - that's as official as anything else. While I remain surprised that the US release would be so long after other countries, there's reasonable indications that G2 will be available well before October at least in some places. June/July isn't too far away to find out.

What a friggin' crock this has been over G2. every time they push it back it's like them telling us Santa doesn't exist....

Oh well. The good things come to those who wait. It'll all blow over when we finally get it.

Personally i think that Gothic 2 will be outdated by October 7th. Just think, better computers come out about every 6 months, and a lot of new games will come out with better graphics and gameplay fit for those comps. Now i am not saying that nobody will play Gotic in October, all i say is that it will be outdated. Right now i gave up waiting for G2 and occupy myself with other games.

I was reading on the Atari forum of other games that thier bonds are coming due and the 'Enter the Matrix' is a flop game (are they all not flops? games based off movies). When they were Infogrames they also published Master of Orion 3 which was horrible (do developers play test these games? How could they mess up a classic like Master of Orion?).

Basically Atari is broke. That is why there may be no advertising. I hope Gothic 2 will give them the money to stay floating if it is not already too late.

Enter the Matrix is a rather average game but with a million confirmed sales in under two weeks I doubt it could be called a "flop" - perhaps Atari expected more, but these are good sales in anyone's books even across the multiple platforms.

I belive reading somewhere that matrix reloaded has one of the most biggest budgets ever on the gaming industry..
