Ok, here goes. G2+NotR took 27 months. Gothic 3 will be 3 times as big so they need 81 months for it with a team with 13 people.
They have 30 months to do it with a team consisting of 20 people. That would mean 30*1.5=45 months for it with a team with 13 people.

Did I make a mistake or should we begin to worry already?

And 1,5 years they are now at 50% done, with a year prior to the release I'd say they already have 6 months to little.

However, I'm not worrying. Now with more people they can do a lot more things at the same time and work much more effecient.

If G2 + NOTR would have taken 18 Month to complete with twenty people then you can say that they have exactly 12 month more for G3.

I think G3 will be 3 times as big as G2 (or 2 times as big as G2 with TNotR), I didn´t follow the details closely, though.

The comparison is easier if you do it in man-months. IMHO it´s quite obvious there´s no reason to worry if you factor in some other aspects:
-the team is more experienced now (->less time wasted through mistakes)
-the licensed components give development a kickstart, even if most of them are replaced later ...
-... and serious technical issues unlikely. Gamebryo is proven technology.
-The budget is probably considerably higher ...
-... which makes outsourcing of graphics and sound assets easier.

In the preview they said 3 times bigger than G2, of course on WoG fans immediately asked KaiRo if that meant "including Jharkendar"
I'll quote KaiRo link:

This would mean including the addonworld, after all that is part of the isle of Khorinis.

Could you explain this? Even with more money it still takes a lot time to draw the entire world by hand. Or am I not getting something.

But it can be done by more people at the same time.

Ah, okay. Good to know.
But size doesn´t mean the content density will be equal. G2 was tightly packed. Maybe they make the trasitions between the ares smoother this time.

Why would somebody at PB have to design 1000 items, NPCs or creatures? If an asset is small and the quality can easily be verified it can be outsourced.

From today´s press release:

quote:
JoWooD announces that it has closed a Distribution Agreement with Nobilis IBERICA. 2005-05-10

JoWooD Productions Software AG, listed at the Vienna Stock Exchange, is pleased to announce the closing of a distribution agreement with Nobilis IBERICA for the Spanish and Portuguese market.

This Agreement includes, among others, JoWooD’s key-titles like SpellForce 2, Gothic 3, Stargate SG-1: The Alliance, Panzer Elite Action.

“We are pleased to strengthen our partnership with JoWooD. Their upcoming portfolio is really fantastic and our teams are delighted to work on such quality products”, says Eric Pernelle, CEO of Nobilis IBERICA."

Really? I had no idea they did that. I thought they designed and made everything themselves. Thanks

I don´t say they´ll do outsourcing. Just that it´s very common in Germany because it reduces costs. Phenomic for example hired Virgin Lands to make almost all graphics and the FMVs for SpellForce. Phenomic is twice as big as PB - and almost everybody creates content or works at QA. This explains why SpellForce is at least 100 hours long and why they were able to create two 50 hour long add-ons in 1 year and release them in nearly bug-free condition.

On the Virgin Lands homepage i can see that Jowood is one of their customers . So is it possible that Jowood does give tasks to Virgin Lands in request of PB ?

The fact that the game world will be three times larger doesn't mean that the game will take exactly three times as long to make. Making the game isn't just building the world - that's just one of the many many vital parts. The other parts might not have to take that much longer.
