The Bard's Tale: Interview @ Just RPG |
|
Following on from their preview last week, Just RPG has posted an interview with inXile's Brian Fargo on 'The Bard's Tale':
JustRPG: What were your goals when you set out to create The Bard's Tale?

Brian: The original goal with creating a new Bard’s Tale was to shake the genre up a bit and challenge some of the old RPG conventions. We also wanted to bring a more human quality to RPG’s to make them more interesting to non RPG players. People always gravitate towards people and the more we can create characters that behave like real human beings, the more people will take interest.
|

While it's a really good interview, to be blunt, I feel really P'd off. Why, because the PC version will be released 3-4 months after the consoles. We're treated like second class citizens!! I doubt I'll buy the game for that reason alone, unless it gets absolutely brilliant reviews. _________________ If God said it, then that settles it!

Not too surprising...after all, look at Bioware & it's Star Wars: KoTOR. KoTOR was released for the console some little months before it finally made it's PC debut. And the more I look around...the fewer PC Dev's I see out there *sighs*
It does make me wonder sometimes...is it really that Dev's are following Microsoft's lead with the Xbox (which, I am to understand - it's much harder to develop a program for a console than it is for a PC)...or is it that the software gaming industry is making the transition over to the consoles because of the "software piracy" problem?? |

Gaming between Consoles and PC's inevitably swing back and forth.
the Home PC in the early 80's all but spelt the death for console systems Atari, Intellivision, et al. until Nintendo surpised everyone in the late 80's.
The flexibility and versatility of a PC with its variety of applications can't be duplicated on a proprietary device. Its that very nature which brings in the cash as they receive a license fee for every (very expensive) game sold. But htese machines only start to show money when those are developed 2 or 3 years after the initial product launch. By then, technology starts to put those machines behind and the public is left with a device that goes in the closet that they can't get any more use out of. |
