Constant Gothic crashes

Every time I'm headed to the sect camp, crossing the first bridge, Gothic minimizes, then crashes. I'm running Windows XP on an Iwill KK266 with a 1200mhz Thunderbird, 512mb of PC133 ram, SB Live! 5.1, and a GeForce 3.

XP thinks the culprit is an illegal call to mss32.dll. Any advice?

Yes. Mss32.dll is the driver for the Miles Sound System. Everything about it has been said before, so search this forum and you should find many suggestions.
The first thing to try: change the sound provider to DirectSound HW, disable reverb and restart Gothic.
