Options for identifying items in TOEE?

My party is level 3 and I still can't can't identify any items except
to ask a merchant or use the identify item spell, both which cost 100 gold pieces. Are there any other ways to identify items?

That's f***ing ridiculous. So I have to spend 100 gold pieces to identify a potion worth 60?!? They should have kept the 2.0 rules for identifying items where the higher your level, the more items you could identify on your own.

That was also the 3.0 rule, but it's not the 3.5 ... they emphasized higher level spells for that (analyze dweomer, which costs 1500... but only once because you can reuse the material component as often as you want. It is, sadly, not in the game).

I didn't bother identifying potions. Blue is healing, and that's all I used. Anything else I had my cleric make himself.

It would be helpful though, to be able to tell the difference between cure
'minor', 'light', 'moderate', and 'critical' potions since they all look identical.

I just assumed they were all cure light and was pleasantly surprised whenever I recovered more than 10 hit points.
