There's a great silent Cthulhu film by the HP Lovecraft historical society, I finally got it in the mail yesterday. The official spiel is-
"At last, the stars are finally right...
The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society presents its all new silent film of The Call of Cthulhu. The famed story is brought richly to life in the style of a classic 1920s silent movie, with a haunting original symphonic score. Using the "Mythoscope" process — a mix of modern and vintage techniques, the HPLHS has worked to create the most authentic and faithful screen adaptation of a Lovecraft story yet attempted.
This extraordinary motion picture is now available on DVD. The DVD also features a making-of documentary, high-fidelity and Mythophonic audio, special features, and intertitles in twenty-four languages. "

These people at the HP Lovecraft Historical Society are definitely into this thing, the packaging also is "in character" as well.
The thing comes in a small package with a label that looks to be typed with some old-style blocky 1920's typewriter font, complete with sorta half-inked letters. The invoice itself is typed in the same fashion, on that old-style yellow paper with almost chunks of wood still floating around in it, adorned with a classical looking header style and cthulhu logo. The insert page in the dvd case is done like an old newspaper. The HPLHS freakin rule.
Oh yeah, the film is great too, and I dont mean that in a "so bad it's good" sort of way. It's a new film, but it's done silent style, yet they dont overdo the body language and expressions and all that. They even make it look aged with spots of film deterioration and all that. It's just a good watch, when the big guy finally made his appearance, i was convinced that it's worth the 20 bucks to any serious HPL disciple. Youll hate yourself if you dont see this one, it's a very faithful rendering of both the lore and silent film technique by people who obviously love it.

Thanks for posting this. Never heard of this society before. Looks good. (If only their web store would come up...)

Hey, did you hear someone is making a film for At the Mountains of Madness? I believe the director of Hellboy has the rights.

I'm really happy with how it turned out, for once it seems someone knows exactly what theyre doing regarding this subject. Im just hoping for another chapter 
As far as "At the Mountains of Madness" goes, I'm glad Guillermo Del Toro seems to have his paws on that one. Although I havent seen Hellboy, his "The Devil's Backbone" is one of my all time faves. Not only do I think he's a competent director, he really loves his work and is just great in interviews. I've been doing quite a bit of discovery of the virtually unknown in this hemisphere Mexican/South American horror films via the Mondo Macabro label, and he has popped up quite a few times in the extras, going on at length about Juan Lopez Moctezuma, or Emilio Vieyra in an entertaining and informative way.
The idea of ancient cities beneath the polar ice, or hidden back amongst the snowy mountains is such a fascinating subject, just begging to be explored.
-And BTW it seems the HPLHS site is always seemingly going down or something randomly, but it always comes back.

I loved it! It was creepy. It was atmospheric. It was Cthulhu! I think they did a great job with it. Making it a silent movie was a great choice in my opinion. Silent films can be a real challenge to pull off, but when they're well done, they're outstanding. If they do another Lovecraft story, then I'll definately pick it up.

Greatest horror movie of all-time!!!
I simply cannot believe how badass this film is!!!
