Next week, new topic will be what type and colour of curtain ring do you have in your shower? _________________ The optimist sees the doughnut.

Fan of the Next Generation, hated Deepspace 9, liked Voyager and laughed with the Kirk.
The best captain for me is Picard _________________ Moderator and Council Magician of the RPGDot Shadows

I'm not a Star Trek fan really, but I love the crazy old episodes. My vote would have been for Kirk if not for his later cringeworthy movie appearances. Despite those, I still think Will Shatner is cool, for a mad bloke. My vote goes to Picard, Patrick Stewart is a good actor (not exactly abundant in the Star Trek universe ) and he lives nearby - oh, and the rest are hopeless and should be fired out of their respective torpedo tubes. Make it so! |

They've all got their moments, even Janeway (I suppose).
I liked Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap and I love him in Enterprise. Enterprise is easily climbing the ladders of favorite Trek for me, beating the hell out of Voyager and edging past the Original Series. Pity about this season dropping the ball a bit... the episodes and acting and special effects were good... I just don't like time travel and Enterprise does too much of it, even for a Trek.
Shatner... ah, Shatner. Any man who can maintain a Shakespearian intensity for five seasons to a campy 60s show gets my nod. Let's hear it for iambic pentameter.
It's ... a shame... that people ... only hear the... pauses now. That they do not ... pay attention... to the ... fact that ... the pauses are... there to ... emphasize key words... and phrases... damn you.... klingons!
Stewart is my favorite captain, though. He brings a touch of class to everything he does. It's a pity he doesn't get stronger roles on a regular basis... but he was one of the most watchable things about Dune (1984) and I can't imagine a better Professor Charles Xavier from X-Men. He made a pretty awesome Ahab in a made for TV Moby Dick that I don't think got any air-time internationally...
Brooks I really liked. He played the role well and I liked his attitude when dealing with alien races. Sort of a 'I'll play along because I know the rules but do what I need to anyways' attitude.
Mulgrew... was a good Starfleet captain but she never blew me away performance wise. Not once. Good doesn't cut it when you're the series lead. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

Do you mean who did the best job of acting or do you mean which fictional character made for the best Captain? _________________ Always with you what can not be done. Hear you nothing that I say? - Master Yoda

Kirk. No doubt about it. And the first series was the best anyway. _________________ All shall hear the words of Karras...the words of Karras |

To baldy go when hair was once before.
Old Patrick Stewart, even Sesame Street did a parody of the Next Generation.
Question? What came first Patrick Stewart playing Ahab in Moby Dick or the film First Contact, quiet ironic really. _________________ The optimist sees the doughnut.

Kirk. Xen's point about delivery is very on target ... but more to the point, I grew up with Kirk as the Captain. So my vote *has* to go to him. _________________ =Member of The Nonflamers' Guild=

When I compare the all of the Star Trek television series, I like Captain Jean Luc Picard. When I compare the two movie series I like Captain/Admiral James T. Kirk better. I think that Patrick Stewart did a better job of acting. I think that the movies based on the original crew were better written.
When I examine the mythology, everything favors the original crew. If I woke up tomorrow on a spaceship in a crisis, I hope that James Kirk is the captain, and I want the crew of the original series. Mr. Spock is light years better than Cmdr. William Riker, and I take Scotty over Jordie LaForge any day. _________________ Always with you what can not be done.
