I'll probably go with the light side first.

Dark side of course

I haven't even seen the Xbox version either but I heard that the engine they use for kotor is a heavily modified version of Aurora. Not sure how true is that though.
Yes this is true.KOTOR use the engine of NWN.It is not heavy at all and look pretty good. One of my friends has a GF MX 440 and the game runs very good with 3xAA.So I hope that KOTOR will run good even of you have a mounster PC.

Why did you quit playing the Dark side only about 1/4 through the game? Is it because its boring or?

As far as I got the two were the essentially the same with only differences in the dialogue. I will pick it up again to finish it to see the ending, but I'm worried that that is the only major difference between the two.

Light.

I always play light first in SW games. Always, because I tend to think I'm doing 'wrong' if plating as dark...

I just got it. Based on the guide for the Xbox version it is difficult to walk the true righteous path of the Light Side. I've also talked to a couple of people that played the XBOX version. One said he went into it to be dark dark dark, but ended up with a dark but not real dark character. Based on my own personality I think that may end up being the sort of path I'll end up taking. It looks like the dark side could be fun, so I'll try to be dark, but my own self won't let me.

I think the poll would be better if it said: Light, Dark, Both. I plan to play both at this stage, beginning with Light.

Actually, I assumed that most people will at least try out both the light and dark side, even if they did not complete it fully. Hence, thats why the poll saids, which path will you try first.

the makers of KotOR, were expecting that players would choose for the dark side, so they gave it more quests.

the light side, has about 30 hours of playing, while the dark side has about 50 hours of playing. they gave it more quests, and longer quests.

Well im gonna try 2 stay in the light side the 1rst time i play but i no im gonna fall in2 the temptation of the dark side.

Well im betting every1 will do both, i will. I havent bought the game yet cuz i was saving up im buying it this weekend, but after playing jedi knight academy and doing the dark side there; i thought the dark side was a better ending 2 it than the light side, and i bet i kotor it would be a better ending than the light side.

Don't think the neutral path is available. Maybe you could sometime kill people and sometime help people when doing quest, but no or lack of sufficient dialogs, plot options, etc for you to really role-playing a neutral character. The Star Wars stories is always about the struggle between good and evil.

That is why i like the Deus Ex universe better - No clear line between good and evil, more realistic. Just like in real world, a originally good decision would become a evil decision at certain point of time, at different place, or in different context, etc.

Well thats not completly true im a big starwars fan, if u ever read the books on the the stories based on after the last movie u would no. I remember reading a part in a book about Jacen(Han Solo's and Leia's son) how his master tought him bout like the "neutial" side. I dont remember it clearly cuz i read it awhile ago. But Jacen used both good and bad powers when he was fighting like he used lighting and healing.

---But yes i agree with him the game didnt really have that kind of options but it would have been great if they did.

Well, it seems to be quite difficult to stay on one path or the other. My character is a hybrid, with the "force-o-meter" being pulled somewhat down towards the dark side. I have gone through the game, to this point, on whatever I'm feeling at the time. i.e. I talk to all of my characters, but if I get tired of hearing their story, I tell them to shut up and move on! If I don't want to help an NPC, or they talk too much, I may just kill them! On the other hand, I would say I've helped quite a few people along the way.

I think perhaps next time I'll play through and either be entirely dark or entirely light. That will be hard for me, though, because sometimes I just can't stand the extremity of those options. You're either a pansy-arse pushover who can't stand up for himself, or you're a force Nazi.

ive played both light and dark through the entire game but even though the light side is more moraly correct it is much much harder for several reasons.
Less rewards/loot.
Less overall options.
Harder to solve some puzzles.
Gives usualy usless boneses.

My first time through, I started with a trully neutral char. Half of his actions were good and half were bad. Some without even realizing they were bad (why is dueling to death bad???). But now that he's a Jedi, he's slowly and gradually leaning towards the light side. He's trying to live up to the Jedi ideals, although the temptation of using the force powers is quite tempting (bless the mind domination ). But the incessant nagging that the "good" Jedi are performing is not helping. If anything makes him fall to the dark side, it will be the "oh, you're not good enough to be light Jedi"; "oh, you're too young"; "oh, you're too untrained"; "oh, you couldn't possibly know what it all takes to be a good light Jedi";... I got a red crystal in my saber for a reason!

I'm playing two characters simultaneously... one dark side, one light side. By the end of my first visit to Dathomir I was 100% dark (nearly... perhaps 95%) and something like 80% light.

The Dark Side is quicker and is fun. But my light side Jedi is more powerful in the Force... most of the really useful powers are light side and thus my evil guardian (called marauders in the pen and paper game) can only reliably pull off one heal for the cost of nearly all his force points. And I can't use drain life in armor...).

Im an SW noob, so I started out like I do in all games, a Scoundrel. B&E and stealing is how I get stuff in games. But believe it or not, I dont have a single Dark point. They did a good job with Bastila's charater. She's my characters moral compass.
