Horizons

I am hereby announcing my intention to start a Guild when the game Horizons is released.
(It is just about to enter beta right now)
If you do not know anything about this game then I suggest you check it out, it looks exceedingly promising. This is the official site. Though there is far more information about the game in the developer journals here.

EDIT - UPDATE: Just found this on a Horizon’s fan site from the last E3...
“Talking advantage of the situation as any good pseudo-wannabe journalist should, I took the opportunity to ask some more questions. In no particular order and paraphrased from my shoddy notes, here they are: ....
When will the beta be?
Open beta may be around the first quarter of 2003.”

It’s somewhat old, but I certainly hope he’s right about the open beta part.

From what I have read players are able to build small cities from scratch, and the ones who have a Guild going into the start of the game likely have the best chance of making the best player made cities, some guilds will even be able to make a castle. So the ultimate goal of this Guild, will be to make a self reliant town and to eventually build a castle around it.
In this game I believe players will be asked to select an alignment during character creation: good, neutral, or evil. This Guild will likely be unusual in the fact that it will accept characters of all races and alignments, even races that are in direct opposition. Just because two characters may hate each other, doesn’t mean they can’t work together. So it the interest of making a self reliant Guild city and castle, all will be welcome. *Except those that believe themselves to be L33T/133+*

Since the game is still a few months away I have no name or emblem for the guild. When it gets closer to release I will take suggestions from anyone interested and then we can vote on which name and emblem to use. *Though since this will be a guild with a neutral Guild Master and will accept both good and evil characters I suggest the Yin-Yang for an emblem.*
As early as it is there are no set guild rules yet, but one. No PKing! There is a big difference between PvP and PKing. If two people wish to fight then they should have every right too, even if they are in the same guild, but PKing - the killing of those who do no wish to participate in Player vs Player combat - will be strictly frowned upon. The PKing of another guild member will be grounds for immediate dismissal.

>This is a forum not a contract, just because you post in this thread doesn’t mean you have to join, so feel free to ask any questions, make suggestion, or just say “maybe, but I’ll wait till the release date is closer to decide.”

Indeed. If you do decide to play it you can be my #2/right-hand person/General/person that gives a lot of orders.

Sounds like great fun. Might be better then Atitd. I liek it that you can fight.

I think i will only have time to play 1 online game.
It would be great to be a beta tester. We might have better change if all 3 of us sign up as beta tester, making them know that we are from rpgdot and want to get news about the game and we are a group.

I think the want groups at the start, so they can test it better. This site has a good amount of members.

Now just hope it wount cost that much and i can pay without a creditcard.

I saw thois post a little late, but please COUNT ME IN!!! hehe!

I have signed up for BETA, but I'm really anticipating this game as well. Knowing you Roach, I would believe that one of your Guild rules should also be that RolePlaying would be not only encouraged but enforced. I'd like to be part of a such a group who clearly identify themselves as role players.

In any case, count me in!

No, it's first BETA, so only a distinct few will be chosen, I guess.

In one of the diaries it stated that guildmasters could “Set Chat Privileges. Allow for the different levels of guild communication”, so if there are multiple chat channels, which it sounds like there will be, we can have one that is strictly RP and one that isn’t.
Otherwise, I’d prefer not to force any particular style on people. Plus when I try to RP I tend to slip in and out of it a lot.

The first beta will only be 100 people, but there will several different stages in which they will increase the numbers each time. In a few months there may or may not be an open beta, it doesn’t sound as if they’ve decided yet.

BTW If anyone is wondering why they should join this guild instead of another, here’s a couple good reasons...
I know that the whole point of playing these games is to have fun, so I have no desire to dictate what people can and cannot do. I would prefer to leave rules that will greatly affect members’ gameplay up to a majority vote.
That said here’s a better reason...
Set Dues. Dues are not collected automatically. It is up to the guild to enforce their decisions. With that said, setting the dues does provide a mechanism for informing the guild when and what is expected of them. Dues can vary per rank”
I’ll put dues up for a vote, and if the decision is that no one should have to pay dues then they won’t have to. Though I personally will be recommending that some people do pay dues and some people don’t. How is that fair you ask? The guildmaster can set who has access to different guild vaults, the more one contributes to the guild through dues the more access they have.

I myself don't mind dues at all, but I can understand that some people could be offended by them. As long as the guild offers something back to the members, dues are justified (funds for crafters is often appreciated, for example). Some more dedicated members will always be ready to donate money as well, so I don't think that should be much of an issue if dues are set to be optional.

Looking forward to it Roach!

Dues are good, you can never complete the game on your own.
You must pay to support your town
