Grimoire Site Update

Another Grimoire site update happened today. Here's what it says:

There are 14 monsters left out of 112 unique animations and we have found a pretty good system to complete them all with. We model them first in either Blender or Poser and then render them out as cartoon 2D frames at the right dimensions. We then go over them with our AceCad tablet and clean them up, detail them and recolor them so they look like graphic hand 2D artwork and not rendered images.

It is a great method, timesaving, productive and the results speak for themselves. I may be working on this basis with Jarrod and if he assists me, I figure the monsters will be done within two weeks for certain. So far, the witch, night moth, earwhiggs and swamp leech have turned out great using this system.

If we can get the monsters and characters finished, it is going to give me more confidence than I've had in three years that the beta is imminent. I will feel very secure sending out the beta version and letting testing begin if those primary graphics are present.

Grimoire is a shareware CRPG, longer in production than Duke Nukem Forever.

This guy's on a mission from God

In all honesty, does anyone think this game is going to be anything but an outdated joke if and when it finally gets released? It would've been fine if it was released ten years ago to compete with Ravenloft, The Stone Prophet, or Wizardry, when those games existed, but the genre has moved on long since then.

If the game were to actually be released, yes it would be very outdated, but I'd still love to play it. The problem is I've only known of this game for about a year or 2 and already it seems like maybe the whole thing is just a hoax.

Rpgs suck today

Why people want to see this game gets finished? most rpgers still play retros anyway because of todays lame offerings. The graphics for grimoire look good whether using 3-D "lithtech engine" or sprites. The question is cleve doing these screenshots up in photoshop as a hoax or will it be completed.

Yup! I played it! around 1996/97 or so I think. My first impression, even back then when I saw the graphics was "Don't bother..." Still ,I know IF it ever gets out I'll buy it. Just for the sake of nostalgia. I'd love to play a 'new old game' if you know what I mean.

Graphics vs Gameplay

I know the debate is as old as video games themselves, but it seems to me that those who aren't waiting for this game are the same as those who go to films to see special effects and don't really care about story or gameplay. Still, those are viable reasons to want a game and watch movies, so more power to them. I hope that Grimoire has more to offer in the story or system department than simple retro nostalgia.

While graphics are nice, the best game I've played in quite a while was a little shareware game called Star Scape from Moonpod. Actually, it had nice graphics, but they were 2d. However, it wasn't a typical 2d shooter, instead having a number of innovations in gameplay that were refreshing.

Just my $0.02. Which in this economy might be worth something
