There's quite a few of us playing it here.

OK...As an action game I think it's great fun with a surprisingly good story. The mouse-only control scheme is brilliant - one of those things where it's just so good you wonder why it wasn't done before.

It's so good it I wish they'd taken that "final" step: a true dynamic economy so trading had more meaning. I'd also like more options for the ships and different characteristics like speed.

I think Dhruin summed my experience up as well. Only thing I might add is that a little more variety of non-story missions would have been nice (they're all versions of "go kill"- it would have been nice to add convoy escort or special delivery type missions that didn't specifically involve combat.

Quite agree,

I find Freelancer and excellent game. OK, so most of the missions are "go kill" type, pretty much the same as the "fed-ex" type seen in conventional RPG games....but I can live with that.

Mouse control system is beautiful......as has been said....why has it not been done before?? I have never really liked games that require a joystick add-on...just my personal pref.

As far as levelling up is concerned, having only reached the dizzy heights of level 7, the only benefit I can see to gaining levels, is the option to have access to better "stuff".

I have come across the Bounty Hunters, who mention a guild....not sure if you can actually "join" the guild (or any other faction) or whether it is all dealt with via the rep system...which is also good.

I am still going through the missions.......I am tempted to change sides and blast away at some LSF ships or start shooting up neutral traders just to see what happens.....

Anyway, I rate this game highly and look forward to many weeks, nay, months of marauding.

Regards,

hex

I've been on both sides of the law. After you get the best heavy fighter most things aren't a problem. You can get the best stuff starting at lvl 26. Though you can still be smoked if you don't watch out. There are other ships out there that have the same capabilities as yours and they tend to gang up on you. I just wish there was a real economy and the ability to hire other ships to protect you and your cargo. I am getting tired of flying around in a heavy fighter and always having to kill.....really wanted to have a humpback freighter and deliver goods from place to place but that ship is easily outmaneuvered and its shields only hold for so long. Its a great game but I was hoping the story wouldn't end so quickly. Speaking of which... is that online space action game any good? its made by Electronic Arts I think.

I did not enjoy it. I thought the concept was great but the execution was poor
