I tend to use 800 by 600 more than 1024 x 7xx.

Especially in games with a LOT of reading... like Morrowmind will have. I had to use subtitles in Gothic as well as my wife hates RPGs above minimum volume. But games like BG2, Arcanum, and the like with a lot of reading... 800 by 600 was the best of both worlds.

I tried out run out my vid card to my bigscreen Tv last night ( 51 in ). It worked pretty good so I think I'll set it up so I can play Morrowind from my Lazyboy on my bigscreen. But I guess that if it runs well enough at high res on my monitor that the high res may be preferable to viewscreen size as I think that TV out is either at 640x480 or 800x600 res.

I never play at max resolution. Usually makes the text too small to read rapidly on a monitor (at least for me).

It depends on the size of your monitor. On a 21 incher it isn't as bad as someone who only has a 17". Personally, I can't live with anything less than 21 inches.

Well, I've been reading all your posts and they've been very helpful. Hmmm. I'm not sure what to do now. I know the geForce 4 MX, both the 440 and the 420 are supposed to be around the geforce2 if it was a little faster, and that it doesn't support directx8, but i was going to buy it since it was 130 bucks..I can't afford the 300 for the Geforce4 and it looks like the geforce3 is still nowhere near 150 bucks. I was planning to go get the Geforce4 mx 440 today, thinking that then I could get morrowind on pc instead of my xbox and that i'd also have a pretty damn good card (compared to the geforce1 i have in there now) for FPS and such in the future...should I just not even bother? Is there a good possibility that the geforce4mx will end up supporting directx8 with some new drivers or something? what are your guys opinions..just wait for the damn thing on xbox or until the geforce 3 drops way down in price
which it probably won't, eh?

I'm waiting until it actually comes out, then I shall see what video card I'll get.

GeForce4-MX is a DirectX7 piece and will never support the DX8 features in hardware. Donīt buy such a card.

My suggestion is to wait till the last moment. The new CeBit announcements should hit the stores in the next few weeks and push the prices of the old cards down. You will soon get a GeForce3 Ti-200 for close to 150$. Another option is a Radeon 8500 OEM for the same price.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll just wait until the GeForce 3 Ti goes down in price

Another point worth mentioning is that most manufacturers follow nVidiasī or ATIsī reference design. So itīs, generally speaking, not a bad idea to buy the least expensive available brand. Of course you have to compare clock speeds and accessories to avoid unpleasant surprises.
