Too Human Trilogy (Silicon Knights, Action/cyberpunk X360)
http://www.toohuman.net/
Story:
* Players take the role of Baldur, the Norse God of light. When some malevolent machines driven by artificial intelligence arrive on your planet, it's up to you to lead your men into battle.
* At the start of the game Baldur is apparently "too human" and thus can upgrade to become more powerful. His upgrades may include things like cybernetic legs to help him run faster or eye implants to give him infrared and x-ray vision. Players will likely be treated with the moral dilemma over the fusion of flesh and machine. Perhaps the quote at the beginning of the trailer sums this up all too well: "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become one himself. - Nietzsche" (Interestingly enough, Nietzsche wrote the book Human, All Too Human)
Mechanics:
* The Too Human trilogy runs on a heavily modified version of the Unreal Engine 3.
* Like Eternal Darkness, the player will not need any control over the camera. The system is designed so that the player can see what he or she is doing at all times without the inconvenience and distraction of worrying about camera placement.
* Context-sensitive controls are used to give the player more abilities when the timing is proper.
* As you've seen in the trailer, the animation of Too Human is a key feature of the series. This makes the game much more fun to play, and better for casual gamers.
Gameplay:
* Because there is no manual camera control, both analog sticks are left open for combat use, which opens up many new possibilities for gameplay mechanics.
* Too Human features a mixture of gunplay and melee fighting techniques weaved together. Silicon Knights has even hired consultants from Hong Kong that have worked on box-office giants like the Matrix and Chronicles of Riddick to make sure the moves that Balder busts out are more stylistic and than those of the average videogame.
* Like the original Too Human for PlayStation, cybernetic upgrades give the players new levels of character customization. Players will even be able to transfer their customized character from the first game into the next installment.
* In addition to the single player experience that Silicon Knights has always delivered on, there will be an extensive Xbox Live component to the series as well. Denis Dyack told IGN, "A big part of this game is its Xbox Live functionality. I love MMORPGs, I love Diablo and games like that, and so Too Human will definitely take advantage of online in a way I'm really excited about." Perhaps players can reenact the type of battles seen in the single player game between Balder and his men against the machines? That would be pretty awesome, but at this point we can only speculate.
Release dates:
* An official release date has not been announced, though a July EGM article listed Fall 2006, and a new Microsoft fact sheet has it listed for Holiday 2006. Denis Dyack revealed that Too Human Part I is about 50% finished at this time.
* The releases of parts I, II and III will come 12 months apart from eachother.
