In Chapter 2, after getting the gearwheel, I can't get past the second set of ladders! The ladders don't reach far enough and as the result I get knocked off before getting onto higher ground. What do I do! |

I do not know about what place are you exactly speaking, but...
But there is easy way down to place where is gear. Ledder ends exactly where ground begins.
And way down to the bottom of Old Mine is also easy and without problem.
So look better or try to find another way. Your Gothic is surely same as mine, so you should find it...

I also couldn't climb up the ladder sometimes. You can climb up to the platforms, run and jump to the ledge instead. (make a savegame before jumping, in case you miss the ledge!)  |

There is big stone (or platform) in one corner, so you can jump there, kill all mineclawers with bow and jump to the ground.
