RPGDot Feature: An Exclusive Preview of Grimoire

You've waited years for this game, now it's nearly here. After many hours with the Grimoire beta, Corwin gives us some insight into this near-mythological game:
I have been playing and testing a Beta copy of the game for the past few weeks, and having a blast. Yes there are still bugs and areas that are not working properly, or which need the addition of a few more encounters, but this is going to be a great game when all the problems are resolved. With a few more months of scheduled testing and balancing before its release, the final product should please (and silence) all of those who said the game would never be released.
Read on to discover what's in store here.

Hmm.....200 hours to 600 hours of gameplay. That would take some absolutely amazing level design to keep interesting. If too much of that time is spent going through barren dungeons fighting pointless random encounters the game could be unbearable.

Other then that nothing really stood out in the preview, sounded like any of the many other niche RPG games that have been released. Hopefuly he isn't going for quantity over quality.

All "exclisive" screenshots are from old DOS beta (1997)!

Hmmm.....it does look an awful lot like the old beta now that you mention it. I'm not entirely sure that this is going to prove anything.

The screenshots are NOT from the old DOS beta. I have them too. They are from the latest beta version released exclusively to me by Cleve. I have the game, YOU don't!!

Well they aren't the same old beta screen shots we've been seeing all these years. But they do all look like they could have been taken from the old beta. I even recognize at least one area from it.

Anyway I'm not saying that is the case, but Cleve has left alot of people very skeptical. Some have even accused him of propping up false reports in the past. I'm sure if the game comes out in December like your report says that will be all that matters.

If you want to compare screen shots from all thre iterations, you'll find them in our gallery. Cleve is very hopeful for December. The next round of testing/polishing is scheduled for this month. All major game stopping bugs have been found and it is possible to play completely through the game. Balance is quite good too, though some tweaking might help. The only thing which could delay release, is the sheer size of the game. Getting to the final few areas for testing purposes takes a massive amount of time. I've actually suggested to Cleve that a couple of us actually just test the latter sections of the game, but it will be his call. As final testing progresses, we'll know for sure what a realistic release date will be, and it will be announced here.

I would like to beta Grimoire if its possible.
I really wanna play with this game in THIS year! Finally a good, old -style RPG!
Please tell Cleve to release the game in at least december! If he needs beta testers or something just post it here.

btw something is wrong with the official Grimoire forum! I cant register there!
After I completed the registration form and clicked on Submit, the forum is brining me back to the starting forum page without a "word", I never received any confirmation emails at all.

Corwin: You are right, I played the DOS beta too, these screen shots while similar, are definitely vastly improved. If this game ever sees the light of day, I have to applaud the commitment of the designers. I'll definitely buy it.
