Arcanum and other RPG's...

I have played lot of RPG games, i realy enjoyed Morrowind, but now when i have finished it I don't feel like playing It again, becouse its pretty much the same even if you play the game as another character and even another class.

I think it is different with Arcanum, you can create alot of different characters, and the NPC's will react different on the person you are, this makes the game more interesting even if you play the game over again.

I like it when you can play as evil or good, whice you could not realy do in Morrowind, in Arcanum you can finish the quests in differnt ways, mostly a evil or a good way.

Like, i had to find out a location for an elven town, so i asked and elf, he told me the location gladly, just becouse i was an elf, when i later had to find this place i was playing as a another race, he didn't wan't to tell me, i had to make a quest to prove that i was worthy of know the location of the hidden elven town...

I think more RPG games should be like this, i mean, Arcanum didn't have any fancy graphics, but Morrowind did, what if you would have a game like Arcanum and some of the great systems of Morrowind?

(Please don't flame me now, i know that you all know that i love Arcanum... but this post was not meant to be an Arcanum discussion... i mean, the Fallout games have alot of great things that most of the new RPG games don't have...)

The level cap really blew, particularly for melee types. Not being able to give schematics to followers meant you had to cover all the techs yourself if you wanted to use some of the cool schematics. For all the levelling, I never did come up with a good long-term character development plan even with several attempts.

In spite of those complaints, and the fact that I always bogged down before finishing the game, I would say Arcanum was an above average offering. In particular, all RPG developers should be required to study how the Arcanum team did the journal. Particularly the Morrowind team...

Yeah, the level cap wasn't any good.

But i liked that your followers could take care of themelves... i hate controlling more than one character in RPG games.

Yes, Arcanum is in my top five games of all time despite the level cap.

Now, not being able to control all your followers: I can't shake the image from Fallout2. Sheriff Marcus and his favorite machine-gun. DO NOT STAND IN FONT OF HIM.

I still remember one time in Fallout 2...

We were going through that narrow door into the raiders underground cavern. Marcus was standing between me and that old bartender with the heart problem (Casey???). A raider runs up to just in front of Marcus. Marcus lifts up his minigun.... Immediately my heart starts beating faster - is Marcus going to blow all our heads off? But no, the raider disappears in a fine red spray, and me and the other NPC only cop about five bullets each. Go Marcus!

That's true indeed . I remember one time i was surrounded by some bad guys & one of them pointing a real big gun at me. I thought dammit & i'm dead meat this time. It turn out that he blow away someone from his own gang. Anyway i aways paranoia during combat - don't know whether i would accidently shoot dead my own follower, or the other way around, or who will geeting shoot by whom! .

That's what Plasma rifles were for. He absolutely rocked with those.

But yeah, there was nothing like entering a cave full of geckos, have them line up in the tunnel and then aim your bozar at the furthest one. Then let'er rip! I think the max I got was 5 geckos with one burst.

Aw man... you're making me wanna go replay fallout now... (starting to salivate from the corner of my mouth...)

I remember a quest to kill a gang leader in Reading. I've opened the door to his hideout and run away. Marcus camed in and all i had to do is tap end turn .
