I've just put up my second SPP in my v1.4 restart. I've decided to use the Boron M4 for my crystal buyer ship. I think they'll be fast enough not to get Khaak'd and their hold is big enough to haul 35 crystals per trip. Seems to me that my previous game's Expresses rarely found more than 24 or 32 units to purchase anyway.
Thoughts? Better options?
Using Mercurys for the sellers on one and a single Dolphin on the other. Built in Herron's Nebula (that one was a gem for me in my last game) and the new one is in Rolk's Drift. I thought about putting it in Kingdom's End again, but moving it one sector over keeps it from overlapping with Herron's. Since I dropped it right next to the west gate, I figure that's nearly as good as being in KE anyway. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

I hope that M4 is full shielded... even then it's probably toast. Since they don't take evasive manoevers until actually under attack an out of sector combat round or several takes place. Out of sector this translates to getting hit by the beta kyons about 9 times which is about 30,000 damage. But that's unfair... a Khaak M3 (KM3) is one of the most powerful things in the game. The M4 will probably be fine if it runs directly away from the M3 the insant it gets hit... it's just sometimes they stubbornly try and run PAST whatever is killing them.
Full shielded manta is still the best choice for speed vs shield ratio. Second after that would be the Paranid Demeter, boasting up to 75,000 shields (invulnerable to Khaak if it runs) and a 175 speed (fast enough to usually evade a KM3).
In any case, Khaak Klusters (KK) are taking out 250,000 shield Centaurs now out of sector, apparantly (I've yet to see it happen but enough people are whining about it to be credible). So buy what's cheapest.
(TP are the best for selling E-Cells, though) _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi

I sort of made a personal rule for this game only to use TPs for moving people- no cargo of any sort. Besides, they cranked the price on TPs up about 2.5x, so I figured I could pick up a TS fully loaded for about the same money (I didn't fully load mine).
At this point in my game, the Khaak are just beginning to show up randomly and it's mostly KM5's, so I haven't invested money in good shields yet.
I've got my eye on the Demeter. Haven't made the Paranid friendly yet, so it's beyond my reach for now, but I plan on making that my prime cargo hauler when the time comes. _________________ =Proud Member of the Non-Flamers Guild=

Yes, the double-price TPs make them pretty useless (since the TP missions don't pay that well)... which is why I still use my 80 (less about 8 transporting XL) for cargo runners. The 8 I sold off for enough money to pay for 8 transports easy. Except one that would not dock at all no matter what I did. I used it to test how fast the main cannons on a M2 can destroy a TP (about 5 seconds).
The Argon Mercury is a good all rounder if the split and paranid don't like you yet. The teladi TS is pure crap and the dolphin is slow and better suited for Universe Trader duty or supplying weapons factories, which burn through THOUSANDS of energy cells in short order. _________________ Estuans interius, Ira vehementi
