I am still reeling from the after affects of a major crash which rebooted my machine and destroyed my gothic.ini file. I would appreciate it if someone could email me a replacement english gothic.ini file with all of the writers comments still on it. Just private message me and I will send an email address. I have already searched the cds and I cannot find an uncompressed version.
I am running Gothic English version (v1.31 I think) and apart from occasional quicksave problems (well documented by others) everything has been great. Last night I used the options panel to do two things First I set the speaker configuration to headphones and immediately after I changed one of the visual options (water fading) from on to off. Before I had a chance to return to the game my computer rebooted and when I tried to restart Gothic I found that neither the mouse nor the control keys seemed to work.
After a bit of investigation I fond that my gothic.ini file had been completely overwritten by a version which has very odd settings (eg mouse diabled). This isn't even the original file I got on installation because all of the helpful comments from the authors of the software have disappeared and all I have left is a list of settings.
I have got the game playable again by adjusting the options I can see but I still can't get back to my original keyboard settings and some of my configuration screens are coming up in German. If I had an original gothic.ini with English comments at least I would know what I am adjusting. Thanks in advance.

Reinstalling the game should fix the problem without tempering with your savegames...

I guess re-installing was my next option if I couldn't get a replacement. I am always wary of doing that just in case you lose any save games. Happily the ini file I got from Korplem did the trick - thanks again Korplem.
