Maybe a super joke?

Hate to burst your bubble, but I think adding multiplayer to Gothic 2 would be a little too much (if not immpossible) for someone without some kind of sourcecode from the game, or atleast some help from the devs.

Games like GTA3 where people have added mulitplayer were only possible because there was some MP code in it already. But I doubt if you'll find any in Gothic 2.

Good luck to ya though if you're serious. Maybe check the modding forums at sites for games like GTA3 to see what programs they used to get MP in it. Thats about all the help I can suggest though.

I had dreamed of Gothic multiplayer for a long while before realizing how craptastic it would be.

It is good that you are enthusiastic about the project, but I would not get my hopes up about the Gothic developers giving you help. They are far to busy to devote even just a little time to a fan project that has nothing put "intentions" to show for it.

You are better off using whatever resources you have to reverse-engineer the Gothic 2 system and figure out how to do MP. Write up some kind of design document on how you intend to do MP and specificaly denote what items you'd need form PB. If at all possible, get up some kind of skeletal demo of the system. Then, think about contacting PB asking for help.

Actually, I am very skeptical about whether this is even feasible without the source code. Just because one group did it on GTA does not mean it would work on Gothic 2. Both games are most likely fundamentally different in the way they handle things internally.

Honestly, I'd say you'd have more success doing your own thing from scratch then trying to wedge Multiplayer into Gothic 2.

I have seen alot of the code. You would have to write a completely new section to make this work even if you had the source code.

I hate to say this, but it would be verily impossible for us fan boys to give the game multiplayer. It would take the Dev team and a whole lot of codifing to make that come true.

The little engine EXE that could really was not designed for it; GTA had some multi-code in it that some clever programmers brought to life and that engine was thus amiable for that purpose.

I believe you are SOUL for this venture. But I do admire your ethusiasm. It is a nice game; and would be fun to play along with a friend.

even if the engine was suitable for mp think about how laggy it would be
one player in town lags enough
think about 10 players in town at the same time
I would say study a bit and get ready to make a mp patch for GOTHIC 3

I always thought Gothic I would make a kick-ass multiplayer game, let alone Gothic II. Don't give up though, I would love to see a multiplayer game with a dozens of people named "Me" all over the place.
