level up sneak fast

I've read somewhere that you can level up sneak by holding down the key when standing near someone, but it wont work for me.

Well, it doesn't level up sneak fast, just without any effort.

Go find a place with a number of people (bottom of the Fighter's or Mage's Guilds in Balmora works fine). Stand yourself in a corner, save your game (just in case) and lean something heavy on the CTRL key. Now go watch TV for a hour or so.

It's not fast, but it sure is easy.

does your sneak level already have to be pretty high, to make sneaking succesful for it to work? because I'm trying it with a new character.

In Morrowind you are more likely to succeed at something if you are more skilled at it, and your skills improve with sucessful use. So yes, rate of improvement will depend on your starting skill.

However, over the timeframes we're talking about (over an hour) even someone with 5 Sneak should see some improvement after using this cheat. You can of course speed the process up by getting Sneak up to a reasonable level first - try downstairs in the South Wall Cornerclub in Balmora for a Sneak trainer.

If you're still not seeing any results, confirm that your sneak key is bound to CTRL, and make sure the button is being held down properly!

Still not working, and I trained it up to 15. Are you supposed to be moving while holding sneak? Is that why you say stand in a corner?

How long are you leaving it? You need to give it time to work. Are you in an area with people? The two places I mentioned earlier are perfect, as you can be seen, but noone is close enough to stop the sneak from ever working.

If noone can possibly see you, you'll never be successful and it'll never improve. If you can be seen clearly, you'll never be successful and it'll never improve.
