Fallout 3: Former devs to buy license? |
|
Despite Interplay's rather woeful attempts you just can't keep a good story down. I'm not sure how much credence to give this item but NMA is reporting that Danish site Newz.dk has heard from one of the former BIS devs about a possible attempt to obtain the engine and rights to Fallout 3 and continue themselves. Follow the links for the full texts. |

It's been said before - Interplay look set to milk the Fallout franchise for all it's worth, and with that in mind, there's very little hope they'll sell the license.
A faint glimmer of hope might be, if Interplay believe that Fallout 3/Van B becomes a hit, thus potentially boosting their sales of the console-crap they're churning out.
In this scenario, Interplay get money for the license, benefit from positive press about a Fallout game, and don't even have to pay the remainders of BiS to develop the thing... but that would be an intelligent thing to do, so I'm not banking on Interplay taking that route.
But hey - fingers X'd. |

Oh, and for those who don't happen to speak Danish, here's a translation of the little bit of news...
"However, it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Speaking to one of the developers of Fallout 3, I was told that they are attempting to acquire the license to the game and continue development of it. The information is deemed very reliable."
In the comments about the article, the author (Coma) states that he did indeed speak to one of the devs himself, and also posted this bit from Silverstyle regarding former BiS getting the license and continuing development:
"Just want to let you know that we truly think that this would be the best for FO3. If the former BIS staff really can handle this we would immediatly stop our efforts to get the license and make the way free for them."
So they definately seem to be trying - let's hope Interplay can be swayed... |

This news was published today by www.gry.wp.pl http://gry.wp.pl/core.html?filtr=0,0&x=nowinki,10,10412 one of the best Polish game sites:
"Rights to Galleon sold
Snake; wednesday, 17 december 2003
Interplay Entertainment sold to the SCi Games company all rigts to the game Galleon: Islands of Mystery. Details of this agreement remain unknown. The reasons behind such decision were financial difficulties of the company and uncertain future. It`s possible, that soon Interplay will get rid off the rights to the other games."
Sorry for all the mistakes. So they maybe on such money shortage they will be willing to sell everything. |

That money shortage was already a reality about a year ago. That's why they're cancelling games and sacking staff. I doubt that Interplay, as it is, will last much longer. That is indeed a shame, since they have scuh good titles in the bag, like Fallout and Baldur's Gate.
But, if the franchise selling is for the good of the games, then I'm all in favour for it.
But I admit that a couple of years ago, Interplay was my favourite Publisher!

Sic transit gloria mundi
Hope wrote it right, otherwise Sadly to say I liked Interplay too these few years back. But they wanted more, allowed big money and people bringing them to take over company, and now they are almost gone. Usual story in the business, very sad if it seals the faith of creations so great like Fallouts. These few years back I`d never thought I will wait with hope and joy for IPLY to give its last breath. |
