Is this normal?

I didn't post during the week of Thanksgiving since I was busy, but it appears that while I was gone, my profile "forgot" my gender and my birthday. Is that normal? If so, I won't bother to fix it the next time it happens.

Strange quirks on board last few days.

Am I right to assume that you are doing some work on the site? It has been acting strange. I come one time and the notice button for new or unread posts is bright as should be. I leave and come back, not having had time to get to all the unread forums, but now they all are marked as my having read them all. A little bit of a pain. Hard to remember what I had caught up with and what I needed to read still. If it is not your site, let me know. I will try and figure out what is different on my end. But I haven't changed anything that I know of at all.

No that's normal too. When you enter the site four things happen:
1) The current time is entered in the database.
2) You get a unique session.
3) A timelimit on the session is set.
4) Your previous last visittime is set in the session.

Then the posts are checked against your last visit time in 4) and the time in 1). So effectively you get all new posts marked that are made in that timeframe.

When you leave the site, either by closing your browser or visiting anotehr site, the session is cleaned up which results in the time as set in 1) becoming your last visit time. The same happens when the timelimit in 3) makes your session invalid.

So suppose you have visited the site and at 1.00 you go and do something else. Then you visit again at 4.00. As a result all the posts made, between 1.00 and 4.00 are tagged as being new.
If you do a last check at 4.30 then that time is stored in the database. When you check the site again at a later time then only the posts between 4.30 and that time are tagged as being new.

Things get even more complex if you visit RPGDot before you visit the forums. The timestamp between the two is shared. So if you visit RPGDot (or any hosted site) before the forums then you see no new posts being tagged at all anymore. Which is something I still need to fix one day, but for the moment that's what it is.

That's what it is then. I have been going to RPGDot first several times lately and then poof. O.K. I can solve it myself by doing it differently. Thanks, I thought I was really in pc trouble or something.

This has never been my problem (using Mozilla Firebird for browsing). I have to close my browser to mark the forums read, or just click on the appropriate link. I can even visit other sites and come back to RPGDot to find the forums still lit up like a christmas tree.
Speaking of which . . .

Very nice Ariel. Let's see if anyone else sees it. Good job.

You're not the only observant one, cm.

Good to see some things return from last year.

I just managed to reproduce this bug. I had switched my theme to Chronicles (DarkEQ before that), and after switching it back to icicle, the birthday and gender were erased from my profile. As evidence, my profile now shows my gender and birthday as "None Specified."

Chronicles doesn't support any of the mods available, including birthday and other stuff. Might be depending on that.

Looks like it, and now lots of people are neutered. Something has to be done about it. Myrthos, is there a list of mods that have been added to the original template(s)? If not, then I will have to copy/paste my way through..

Well shiver me timbers, I've been neutered!
