The idol in Marten's Bluff isn't all that impressive for all of the work I had to go through to retrieve it. I did see a lot of country side though.

Don't tell me I screwed up again. What teleport-system?
After getting the idol, I soldiered over to Croc's store(I saw the blue flowers after I lost a party member), got his quest, then marched over to Rattkin to deliver the Idol. That's where I left the game, Rattkin. Now you tell me I've got to go back to the Bluff? I'm on a first-name basis with everyone overthere now as it is. Drat, I should have set my portal to there instead of Crock's

You do not really need to go back there, but there is begining of teleportation system that covers several areas in whole Wiz8 world and it is very very useful in later parts of game, when you need to travel from one edge to another.

There is room where you need to repair that maschinery and you will be able to use it.

I've got some wire in my inventory, so I would assume this will fix the problem. When I went to Lower Martin's Bluff, I found the stairs and went up them, without searching the area more thoroughly (I should have realized that there was more to the area.) The Bluff's have been a real pain in my ass!

Maybe small spoiler..........

Actually, I would highly recommend that you find and use the teleporters at least once- you might remember a couple houses around Arnika that you can't get into from the outside? One house has a really good bard instrument in it. Hope I didn't spoil it too badly...

Try completing that T'Rang mission first to get the Umpani flag. It'll save you another trip.

When you find the teleporter in Martens Bluff, I can recommend to use "Set portal" spell there.
Be aware that the teleporter in martens bluff got 4 destinations after you have fixed it, but only one of them have a return teleporter at the destination (The house).
