Many paths...

I think that the game responds to how people play it.
Some people will go straight onto the main storyline, and immediately become immersed in the deeper story of the game, and some will simply try to start building up their characters faction/guild status/power/level or run fot the 'phat lewt.'

I have to agree that the game will take a huge amount of work to get a proper grasp of the storyline behind it. It was designed to cater for the gamer that is interested in taking the scenic route.
Personally, that's what floats my boat. Hardcore RPGs are an aquired taste, and most people that find problems with this sort of game are usually more interested in arcade games.

I believe that a lot of people aren't USED to a game like Morrowind anymore. Little directions what to do, much freedom. And the freedom is what I love most about Morrowind. Take this as an example: I made a custom character that resembles someone who is into exploring, but not for the adventure, but for knowledge. My character (Jonathan Neyden, a redguard), followed the main storyline a little, but then got interested in Morrowind lore and alchemy. So at the moment, he's hanging out in bookstores and gathering ingredients. I am sure that I won't be progressing the storyline for some days now, but just try to learn more about the island and its plants. Between his "expeditions", he rests in inns, talks to the people there and listens to their gossip.

For someone who is used to Diablo-like RPG's, this may sound boring and dull. For me, it's RPG heaven, and this is why I still stand to my opinion that Morrowind is the best RPG ever.

Hey "guest"

Hey "Guest", why dont you learn to realize that other people have different opinions of a game then yours? Yes, I like MW too, but that doesnt mean people dont have the right to dislike it.
