Discount: should I buy it (your opinions)

Ok, price of this title went down at several shops (appr. -30%) and I am starting to seriously think about buying this game.
Could you please describe once again your experiences with this game. What you liked and what not, so I can make fresh picture and then final decision?

Do you like star wars at all?

If yes goto line 20
If no goto line 30

20 BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT
30 Buy it anyways for the character interaction, graphics, dueling animations, storyline, and NWN leveling system

heh.

The characters in this game are great. I swapped all the time because I liked interacting with all of them...

This game definately competes for the title of the best RPG ever for solid storyline, solid implementation (only few minor bugs towards the end of the game), and absolutely incredible characters. PS:T is the only game that can compare when it comes to NPC companions and their depth/involvement. And I'm not sure which set of NPCs I like better. Even your own character development has significant depth to it.

My only gripe is with a few simplistic choices you ahve to make you wish you weren't forced to make. And my number one gripe is with being forced into being a Jedi when you're forced into being it. I'd like to potentially create my chars as something other than Jedi for longer than what the game allows you.

Without giving anything away at all (it's meaningless without any other context and the thing of the game is that without making certain choices you'd never get to it) what my evil character did in the beach scene was possibly the most evil thing I can recall doing in a CRPG. Not in scope... I've destroyed worlds in games, of course, but in personal intensity. The message 'you sweep across the land like a storm, slaying all who will not swear fealty blah blah blah' that you get in some turn based strategies *mean* nothing. By comparison you could almost feel something with this (it's nothing R rated).

Character interaction and choices you can make = excellent. Multiple endings equally as good. Even PS:T didn't have multiple endings (should have). This one could easily be a classic.

Unless you REALLY hate Star Wars, you'll probably like this game, Get It!

Every mission/quest/whatever-you-want-to-call-it is fun and not too challenging (of course that means if you need challenge, you might not like this game).

Great graphics/sound and whatnot, and nothing to actually complain about... so few games are like that nowadays.

I definately agree on that one. The sheer depth of evil you have to sink to in that event actually made me rather sick to my stomach. I couldn't ever imagine doing something like that in real life. I had to reload the game and replay that sequence differently just so I wouldn't feel so guilty. Now that's a testament to the writing when it can evoke such a reaction from the player.

Pardon lady, could you explain this one?

@others
Thanks for tips. I do not love Star Wars, but I saw one or two SW films and they were good enough.
Well, you made me buy it :].

HK-47 is a battle/protocol droid who likes to refer to people as "meatbags".

I bought it first to my Xbox and now a nearly a year later for my PC. A friend told me it was better.

I don't now if i should recommend this to anyone. One interersting thing Kotor gets away with is the small loadzones. (DeusEx and Thief were all bashed for this). The worhless combat AI that make you babysit and stop combat cause your mates choose closeencounter using blasters.

What kotor does good is probably in the story, but its so annoying when your mates commit suicide or blocking your path. AND JUST STAND there. And I can't understand why this game hasn't been bashed for its bland texture, small loading sites and bad AI.

(I don't mind bad graphic, i'm in the middle playing lands of lore and wizardry 8. And love it. Story is the most important element in a RPG, but i really do hate my team mates. It makes me angry when i read reviews about other games and they get bashed for something they do better than kotor. But kotor is bioware and lucasarts and... well we got to love them ... don't we?)

I have kotor for my pc but i will never finish it. Sad.

A good RPG is like Arx, Gothic, Baldursgate...

My 2 cent...

@mute71: I think the reason that the game doesn't get a great deal of criticism in those areas is becasue the problems are not enough to detract from one's overall enjoyment of the game. I gritted my teeth several times over NPCs' poor combat choices, but I liked everything else so much that I didn't mind.
