Most Pleasant Surprise

Since we have a "biggest let-down" thread, why not post about a game or two that you weren't expecting much of, but drew you in and didn't let go? There probably won't be sequels, generally, but sometimes sequels are surprising. Here goes,

Surprises: Deux Ex; Zork: Nemesis

Right off the top of my head without thinking too much - Freedom Force, Divine Divinity...I'm sure I'll think of others later.

Warcraft 3. I didn't think it would be so wonderful.
Diablo 2. I didn't play Diablo 1 for more than 30 minutes, and Diablo 2 is one of my favourite games.
Generally, all Blizzard games(especially the new ones) are usually much better than one would expect

Definitely Divinity, and probably Wiz8. I loved it, but was expecting to be disappointed after the long delay.

Wizardry 8... however, it's quality was a surprise only because Sir Tech was already on its deathbed and I though the game lacked funding. It didn't. Great game.

Icewind Dale, too I know, I know... But I found a bundle of IWD+Heart of Winter + Trials of Luremaster very enjoyable. When I bought the game I was thinking of something less impressive.

Baldur's Gate 2.
I hadn't played the original and it looked interesting, so I picked it up. Wow. Simply wow. I loved it from start to finish and I've replayed it about 8 times now.
It inspired me to go out and try all the other games that had been put out by these developers and their associates. It led me to other great games like PS:T, BG1, and more.

Definitely Kohan, both the original and the stand alone expansion, Ahriman's Gift.

Fantastic fantasy RTS, if you're into those games, you should pick it up. Zombies, Warlords, Dragoons, oh my!

Fallout, as I never heard of it before, and it was an old full version attached with a gaming magazine. Wow! I loved that game.

A few that spring to mind include: Caesar 3, Thief 2 (never played the original) and Deus Ex. All bought on budget.

Wizards and Warriors. A flawed gem that sports some truly outstanding dungeons designs and good voice acting.

Thief. I didn't expect anything when I got it as a present, and it just blew me away.
