Besides Thomas Cleary(who has translated many volumes of Chinese/Japanese classics)...
2 other good translations are...
Miyamoto Musashi : His Life and Writings (Even has paintings by Musashi)
by KENJI TOKITSU
The Lone Samurai: The Life Of Miyamoto Musashi
by William Scott Wilson
Both of these are Biographies about Musashi written by Martial Artists. And they both contain their own translations of Musashi's text.
"Musashi" by Eiji Yoshikawa, is highly recommended. This novel is considered the "Gone with the Wind" of Japan. It is one of the greatest novels I have ever read.
There is an excellent trilogy of movies based off Yoshikawa's novel.
1. Musashi Miyamoto
2. Duel at Ichijoji Temple
3. Duel at Ganryu Island _________________ Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities…there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars…Hither came Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand…to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandaled feet. - Robert E.
