Knock Outs - How To?

How do you knock out someone without killing them? I'm trying to complete Ignaz's Oblivion scroll quest, and assume if you attack somone, and their HP goes down all the way (thus turning them lootable), they're dead. Or is this wrong?

Any assistance in "how to" knock someone out is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

You're doing good.Just don't attack them after they are on the ground(Ctrl+ Up) cause this will surely kill them.

If they are only knocked out when they're on the ground, how do I cast Oblivion on them? I have it equipped to the "4" button (with the hotkey cheat), but can't seem to actually cast the spell. I can "see" it glowing in my hand, but when I press 4 again, I unequip it.

Any further help is appreciated.

Regards,
Michael

Hit the 4 to equip it and the depending on your control setup, use it like a weapon. Up arrow and control or control and left mouse, or what ever, just keep holding the key down until the spell is cast. Takes a few seconds at least to do it.

Here is answer,
Spoiler:
While the guy you knocked out is still on ground, cast it and when he get up he doesn't remember the fight, just says his head hurts. If no one else saw you hit him, you do not get into trouble, and he will still be friendly to you. Good for stealing the books Luthor (sp) has re: fighting to increase skills and sell back to someone else for good money.

You can kill a NPC only if he is down on the floor and you hold a SWORD or you hit him with arrows.
Axes,maces,clubs will NOT kill him.

if you hit 4 and it unequips it you still have your inventory menu up, that has to be closed before you can cast

Can I cast Oblivion on people when they are not knocked out? It would be nice to borrow money from Lehmar, then to cast Oblivion on him so he won't remember giving you money, and you won't have to pay him.
