Kids were discussed previous to G2 was released as well...which was about the same time I last was on this forum.
I agree, kids add a lot of atmosphere,in Arx I can only remember one kid,but seing her run about and sing and that still added atmosphere.(and helping her after she was kidnapped became very important to me...)
For me they could be invincible, wouldn't matter since I wouldn't kill any of them anyhow...like I never did in FO/FO2 either.
But it'd add a lot of real world feeling and protecting them would make me really focused.(if such a quest was added...even if they couldn't be harmed I'd protect them... )
So far it seems like more or less only BIS uses kids on a regular basis, both FO's and both IWD's...
The problem seems to appear when a game's designed to allow you to kill more or less everything and throwing in something unkillable wouldn't make sense according to dev's and some gamers....(but in most games there are unkillable NPC's,so I don't think it'd seem so strange as some point it out to be...)
I always write way too much.... |

Or the dev could at least make a kindergarden(hope is the right word) where the children are left during the day by their parents.
Scenarios:
1.Paladin:you can be a teacher for those kids and be paid for learning them
how to take trophies and about the path as the warrior of Innos(of your own free will)
2.Mage(novice):teach them about the gods, and about right and wrong(as part of a mission from the mages)Of course tou would first have to study yourself about what you are teaching
3.Merc:you could kidnap a child of someone important in the town as part of task given by Lee(Lee has to be in G3) _________________ WORK ORC |

public schooling or schooling for children of normal citizens didnt come about until like the 1600s so why would there be a kindergarten in the middle ages? |

Maybe for the same reason there are wargs, orcs and dragons....? (not everything in a game has to be according to timelines or reality....)
I'd personally prefer free kids myself...but in such times I'd expect them very close to/inside home,it's after all a dangerous world...
But considering how kids are,one could see some get lost and stumble over them in the forest asking for you to help them get home... |

with children or not, with woman or not its the same, they dont do anything only makes the game more realistic,as for killing the children why not ad aligment to the character stats and it can change according to the qusts |

I wouldn't mind children in the game. I remember Fallout 2 - there was some patch that deleted the children, I couldn't play the game after that and I installed the old version. Children would add some realism.
And females? Right, they should play a bigger role in the game.
Maybe in Gothic III there will be female paladins or mages, look at the artwork at the german Gothic II site. _________________ =Member of the RPGDot Shadows=

The medieval world was rather oppressive of women, so I seriously doubt they were allowed to be warriors. _________________ OMG! WTF?! MONKEYS!!!!

I actually dont think its legal, in Britain anyway to put children in action style games where they can be 'killed'... I remember Fallout 2 europeon versions had to take children out of the game after release, the early versions had to be repatched, this was not the case in the states. Im not sure where things stand on this anymore _________________ "There are many questions which fools can ask that wise men cannot answer."
