If i got it right the barrier was supposed to be under control of the magicians. I quess, the plan was to lower it whenever needed. But the sleeper, who had nothing else to do, hijacked the whole thing and trapped the unlucky magicians inside a much larger barrier than originally planned.

Boy I guess I don`t have an imagination they never really explained the barrier very well in the game. Yeah your right wouldn`t make sense to create the barrier otherwise.

Did you make up that idea or is that what the game makers said?

It Works, though I still think it would be easier to make a big fence nah that would be boring for a fantasy game, I liked the whole effect of the barrier myself.

I believe the stroy of the barrier was in the intro. It showed the mages and an accident which caused the small dome barrier to expand, trapping all within it.

You've lost me there.

The magicians DON'T have control. They lost control while making the barrier, which is why it ended up about ten times the size it was supposed to be, encompasing themselves in the process.

Ok sorry me and my crappy writing

Nowhere did it say the orginal plan for the barrier was that mages would be able to raise it or lower it? I missed that at least.

I guess they didn`t really have to say it, why else create the barrier?
I`m just a literal person sometimes so the thought that mages orignally planned to control the barrier never occured to me or at least until this thread.

It didn't matter if mages could or coudn't control the barrier (at least to them). The whole point was that their job was (kings idea) to prevent prisoners to escape the colony. They figured out that the best obstacle to prevent every ecsape would be the magic barrier that will let everything to go "in" and nothing alive to go "out". So their plan was to create the barrier and let it be. No one was conserned with "what if we wont need it anymore?". So something gone wrong and the mages trapped themselves inside the barrier and only then they started to think about destroying the barrier. That was their mistake - the barrier was more powerful than they were.

And as de Niro said in Ronin: "I never walk into a place I don't know how to walk out."

Buddy you take this game too seriously
Jesus Chirst talk about rationalizing something.
You should spend your energy on something other then trying to explain gothic's obvious problems.
The GAME IS GREAT!!!!

Ah, I see. I must have been in error then.

What this is testament to how good gothic is that I could ignore that logic problem.

Yes, if even you (firm defender of reasoning) can ignore a logic problem then game must be great indeed!

Thanks for your insight!

I must say I havent thougt about this "script problem" until I've read these posts. I don't take Gothic (or any other game) too seriously. My previous post is a result of having nothing to do and I just like to complicate things . What I've written my imaination saw in the intro .
