I would download the walkthrough and read the control section and the art of combat.
When I first tried the demo I had the same problems.
You can not have weapon in hand to pickup items, also the left control + up arrow (w key) is used to climb, pickup items and open unlocked chests. Some animals you’ll need to be train in before seeing skins, claws and....

After you become familiar with the controls and the combat system I’m sure you will enjoy it

Agreed. The included manual is pretty bad. JemyM´s FAQ is much better.

Maybe it's because he needed just one more minute or so to find an answer laying around, since it has been discussed more than once?
Sometimes I wonder why there aren't more sticky threads...

Get the chest/animal/object in focus, try pressing the left mouse button and W or up, (i cant rmeember what the default controls are) but definatly left mouse button and whatever key you use for up. If its a chest or animal your looting, you get the inventory of whatever your looting on the left of the screen, and your own on the right. press left mouse button and right to loot the chest/animal/etc

If that's the only problem, you might say there is no problem at all. *wink*

Okay, you can do it if you want.
Collect the data, sort it in some way and put it into a few threads. Links to the original threads could also be useful.
The forum has 587 threads. I estimate you´ll find less than 50 different issues which can be nailed down to a standard solution.
You can also use stuff from the FAQ and mention the patch ... maybe it´s better to write a HTML file and link to it from a sticky thread.

That F.A.Q. is actually a very usefull thing. I have read it a couple of days before... It has just one problem: Nobody seems to know it's there! A sticky thread with a link to it would be sufficient imho.
It is a bit long, though, isn't it... I could try to extract the most critical context, and make a short, sort-of-first-aid-kit for newbies(?). I don't know if it would be ok with the original author....
I really don't have time for anything greater.
