I just re-formatted my harddrive and put Win2k server on it. Partitioned into 2 drives, one C for the operating system and D for everything else. I can install Gothic fine but when I try to start it there is an error message...
System Specs:
Windows 2000 Server w/all service packs
Pentium IV 1ghz
128mb RAM
40gig HD
36mb Nvidia MX 400 w/ latest drivers
48x CD-ROM
Error message below (had to go get it again =/)

Gothic 1.08j, 1.08k, or 1.08k_mod ?
DirectX 8.0, 8.1, 8.1a, or 9.0beta ?
DirectX Retail or Debug ?
Detonator XP 29.42, 29.80, or Omega driver ?
GeForce manufacturer and BIOS version ?

Try going into Dxdiag, go to run, then dxdiag and going to the display tab and disable the Direct 3D accelerator. Im not sure exacly why it works, since i would assume Gothic needs a D3D accelerator, but give it a shot. it allowed me to play it, but im still having other problems.
Good luck |

Try installing the latest GothicMOD Player-Kit (1.08k_mod) because it's the latest version.
(installation: expand the files to the directory where Gothic is installed.
usage: use the GothicStarter.exe from now on to start the game)
And change the resolution for the game in the [GOTHIC]/System/Gothic.INI to 800x600x32 (on some systems Gothic fails to start with 16 bit color depth).
Your system and drivers should work in general.
But did not test 29.80 on P4 with WinNT, yet (I'm using Athlon).

ps: if this does not help - send me an mail with DxDiag.txt, Gothic.INI, Gothic.RPT (rar/zip/ace recommend =)

Hi i had the SAME problem of Kado but i installed windowsXP SP2, ati radeon 9200 Sapphire, DirectX 9, AthlonXP 1.7 Ghz with 512 Mb Ram, HD 120 Gb
I had the same problem of Kado, i tried to follow Nico hints, but the game still crashed on starting.
I formatted the hd 2 days ago and before i formatted it the game worked great!!!
I don't understand where i am wrong....
Please if you can help me, give me some instruction i want to return to play Gothic !!!!
P.S.: I tried to disable Direct3D accellerator but the game is really too slow i can't play it. So now i restored Direct3D accellerator. |

This thread is THREE YEARS OLD. Talk about gravedigging. Try using the search function for problems and if that doesn't work start a new thread. _________________ “Everyone’s a girl when they’re face down.” |
