G2 Gold & Translation mod problems |
|
Hi,
Sorry if this has already been answered in another thread, but I am extremely tired and dont have the energy to read most of the 15+ page threads on the translation mod.
I recently received my German G2 Gold edition and installed it. I have downloaded and installed v1.0 of the translation mod.
The mod shows up in the Gothic Starter. However when I choose the mod and load the game, all the text is still in German.
Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
P.S. Are all the title screen menus supposed to be in English? (Not that the menu was the only place I checked). _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble

Maby this is not much of a help but there are 2 option when you click on Ghotic starter and the english one is the second . The menu has to be in english...also make sure you instal it in the proper directory (i meant the mod) _________________ The ability to quote is a serviceable substitute for wit.

Well have you read this? you can find it from this thread. It also has links to the patches etc..
http://www.rpgdot.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=361203&highlight=#361203
This great step to step instruction was posted by Whailor, so thank him
STEP 0: Install another copy of Gothic2, in case you mess something up. COPY your savegames to some other place for now, for safekeeping! Install another G2 copy to folder, say, \Program Files\JoWood\Gothic II, that will do.
STEP 1: In System folder of your new G2 installation, rename the file vdfs32е.exe to vdfs32g.exe; rename the file vdfs32е.dll to vdfs32g.dll.
STEP 2: You need GERMAN gothic.exe file now, to replace the english one. From where you get it, is up to you,
STEP 3: Download patches 1.29 and 1.30 and install these. NB! Make SURE you point the patcher to CORRECT path, if you installed second copy of G2, as described in STEP 0!
-- Patch 1.29
-- Patch 1.30
STEP 4: Install the Night of the Raven add-on. Make SURE you install it on CORRECT G2, if you installed the second G2 copy as in STEP 0 above!
STEP 5: Once "NotR" is installed, download and apply "NotR" patches:
-- Patch 2.5a
-- Patch 2.6
STEP 6: Once the patches have been applied, run, just in case, in that G2 SYSTEM folder the following file: vdfs32g.exe. Let it finish (green bar will flash few times) and, you're done. _________________ The focused mind can pierce through stone |

I can't say what's wrong other then you probably missed some setup step. As I have posted it few times already in other topics, if the suggested steps are followed exactly, there will be no problems. I've installed german add-on over english G2 and added the mod few times now and each and every time it works OK. _________________ Been there, done that . . . |

I cant carry out those steps at stated, because as I mentioned in my first post, I have the German Gold Edition. I am not using any English G2 at all.
Which of those steps are valid for me?
@ maic_ro:
I did choose the mod from the list. I did say that in the original post.
Also, surely if I had installed the mod in the wrong directory, then it would not show up in the Gothic starter? _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

@ Dez:
OK, I went and read all five pages of that thread you mentioned. The only post I could find that had something to do with the Gold Edition was the install instructions by cothyso. I read the instructions and they are exactly what I did.
Can no one offer any advice?? I am desperate here...
This is realy depressing, after waiting so long and finaly taking the plunge to buy the G2 gold (For over $60), and waiting almost two weeks for it to arrive, it doesnt work! _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

Do you have the old Gold Ed. or the new one with a few gimmicks?
G2 Gold comes prepatched. Theoretically spaking you only have to install the mod. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

I tried it with the German G2 + add-on. It was more problematic than I thought.
1. install G2
2. start G2 to let the program build the file system
3. install TNotR into the G2 root directory. Typically c:\Program Files\JoWooD\Gothic II
4. start the add-on and check it´s v2.6
5. install the mod into the same path.
6. reboot the PC, Click on GothicStarter and select the 2nd option.
The only thing you can do wrong is the paths in the installers. The mod gave me the wrong one, so double check it. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Thx for the reply.
I have the Gold Edition, not the new Limited edition with the map etc.
Yeah I did notice that the path was incorrect. But I corrected it.
The mod shows up in the GothicStarter so the files must be in the right place. I also tried extracting the patch to a seperate directory and dropping it onto the G2 directory. But that didnt work either.
The Gold edition itself doesnt seem to act as the Original G2 + Addon, it installs as one single game, and the addon is already there.
The only part of your steps that I didnt do is #6. I will restart the machine when I get home and see if that helps. But I am not optimistic that its going to make a difference.
Is there anyone here who has actualy got the Mod to work with the Gold Edition? _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

Strange. This means you can´t play G2 alone? Did you browse the CDs if there are single installers?

I think so. Maybe the search function can confirm it. Would be really strange if you´re the first to buy the gold ed. after all these months. _________________ Webmaster GothicDot |

Well it looks like my Banana wasnt the only thing that I had lost.
There was another CD in the Gold Edition. Which said "Offizielle Erweiterung". I assumed that this meant something like "Official Soundtrack".
This morning after checking the CD's for other executables like you suggested, I didnt find any. So I decided to check out the official soundtrack cd and found out it was in fact the NOTR cd.
After installing that, and re-installing the mod. It works.
Thanks for everyones help, sorry for being a retard. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

Yes, "Erweiterung" means "expansion pack" in german.
A CD containing the soundtrack is only in the Limited Edition of Gothic II and the new german Limited Gothic II Gold edition available. The "normal" Gold Edition contains only Gothic II and the addon. And two of the Gothic-CDs are afaik wrong labeled. I guess, CD 1 (named "Installations-CD") is in fact CD 2 and contrary, CD 2 (named "Spiele-CD" = "Game-CD") is CD 1. _________________ Webmaster World of Gothic |

They arent labelled incorrectly, just confusingly. Its more a problem with semantics.
I have had English games before that refer to the second CD as "Intallation CD 1", because its the first of the installation dedicated CD's.
Its not a good way to label it, but its definately deliberate. _________________ IMHO my opinion is humble |

OK, if you have the german G2+add-on, then that may be different thing. Mainly because the translation mod was aimed at the english G2 + german add-on, what probably most had who tried it. It was assumed that those who get german version of the whole game and add-on, should know german well enough and don't need the translation mod
So maybe with that configuration, there may be some issues, but, as I said, it wasn't the configuration the mod was meant for anyway _________________ Been there, done that . . . |
