Harn Free download

I really didn't know what forum to put this in so I put it here.

http://www.columbiagames.com/

You can download the Harn game rules for free from columbia games. There used to be a Harn game being made but I guess it got cancelled. This looks like my kind of role playing system, I wish they would make a game based on it. It looks like darklands, realms of arkania, and other complex systems rolled into one.

I also recommend reading the harn introduction page by Robin Crosby. He says what I always try to say except that he is articulate and makes sense.

This sytem really makes me wish that I had friends that played pen and paper, or crpgs for that matter.

Anyway, its worth a look if you like exploring roleplaying systems.

Sounds good... never heard of it before, I've been out of touch with the world of p&p rp for quite a while, but I just read that intro and it seems pretty interesting. I think the author's taking a few liberties with some of his "no other system" claims , but the reasoning behind his decisions shows a lot more consideration than most of the RPGs I've played (including CRPGs).
I'm downloading the rulebook now to have a butcher's. I'll never play it, but I'm interested to see how they've implemented some stuff... like wounds and armour (gah! those were the first two things that came to mind, I must be disturbed). Game-mechanics-geek nostalgia, I guess

Looks like they took it down yesterday. I was a little late posting it.

What do you think piln?

Guess I got it just in time, cheers for the link, Roqua. I struggled a bit with the character creation, as a lot of it is specific to their gameworld, but I like the emphasis on social standing and such. I've just been reading the bits about skill success/failure and training/experience, and I like the way it's done... quite simple, but makes good sense. I'm just about to delve into the combat rules, but I've already picked up some hints about how the injuries work and it seems pretty good...

Its a little confusing for me, but interesting. There is also a charcter creator utility program on the site that made character creation easier for me at least.

To tell you the truth, I am a little confused by it all. The information is hard to figure out. It says agility goes down and str goes up if you are tall or have a heavy frame but never says by how much that I could find. And that seems to balance itself out, then why does picking tall cost me points (in the point buy system) and picking short which would raise my agility and lower my str give me points. It seems to go against logic. That would make sense if a wanted a str warrior that can break things, but what if I wanted a nimble thief or a mage?
