Here's what I think needs to happen with whoever Jowood picks as the North American partner.
1. They should buy back the rights to Gothic I from Xicat
2. They should get back the rights for *base* Gothic 2 from Atari (if Jowood hasn't already) - who totally squandered their opportunity to promote Gothic 2.
3. About 6 months (or more) prior the Gothic III's release, they should release the "Gothic Saga" on a single DVD. This will include:
- Gothic
- Gothic 2 + Addon
- A newly written, user friendly manual describing Gothic's background and how to use the controls
-A trailer for Gothic 3
4. The Gothic Saga will sell at a budget price point. Say $19.99 or $29.99
5. After the release the "Gothic Saga" product -- aggresively start promoting Gothic III in ENGLISH SPEAKING publications and websites. This means banner ads, interviews, videos whatever. English speakers, especially Americans, need to know about Gothic III. Epsecially since it and Oblivion may very well be the last hurrah for free-form, single-player RPGs for quite some time. _________________ All shall hear the words of Karras...the words of Karras |

I don't think such a thing should be called the Gothic Saga; "saga" implies it's the complete story. |

Uhh....do you not understand what a publisher does?
All those things you listed, advertising in mags/internet/tv, etc that is what the Publisher does, not the developer.
I do agree, that that's one of the main reasons the gothic series hasn't done so well in the US market, the publisher simply doesn't....do it's full job.
They should have ads in gaming magazines, they should have them on well known internet sites, they should have an english main page for G3 with up-to-date info (and a link to here ).
Aswell as previews online from sites aswell, with fan interviews and all the like. |

That might be the case. However, this game is huge in Germany, while in the rest of the world it's just a cult-game.
Jowood makes more money from the German sales than from the international ones. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

I never said they should stop doing a German version or anything like that; just that they need a better English-version strategy. |

They will first need a good publisher, before they can do anything with an international version.
I truly hope Jowood doesn't screw up like they did with NotR. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Right, and it seems that they can't get a good publisher until they're better known. And JoWood apparently refuses to advertise in the US. That's why I say put Gothic I on the cover disc of PC Gamer. |

I dont know why its not so popular here i live in canada not germany and its one of my favorite rpg's ever ppl are to busy prasing crap games with no gameplay.
Well its not fair for us cause we have to wait so long before we can play it like 7 months after germany gets it and then if they release it in english then germany would have to wait 7 months or so just wish they would release it at the same time for every one.

It's easy to mix things up in G3, because it's not so black and white like in G2 and G1. Maybe you're meaning the same thing as below, but just to get things clear:
1. You can "join" 6 groupings, like the people living in Nordmarr and even the orcs. I say "join" because you're not bound to one guild like in G2. You can now do quests for all guilds. Do you want to help the orcs, then do so, and if you later on find a quest against the orcs, you can still do it.
2. There are six professions you can practise. Jobs, like blacksmith and indeed gladiator. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

Uhh, did you mis-read his paragraph? Because I didn't....
He is talking about things a PUBLISHER does, yet he says they should do them BEFORE getting a publisher....
do you understand now? |

I'm sorry, you're wrong.

Note that it does not say "before Jowood picks a North American partner." He enumerated what he thinks the US publisher of Gothic 3 should do. |

Just to clarify some things, Lysander is right. My intentions in that post was to lay out what the eventual North American *publisher* needs to do. Trust me, I realize that the things I outllined are clearly outside of the scope of PB's duites...
So lets put this misunderstanding behind us and move on
P.S.
Stiler - you're from the South so you get big brownie points from me anyway. _________________ All shall hear the words of Karras...the words of Karras
