Character Advice

Hello

As I've said in an earlier post I bought this game yesterday and I'm having some problem determing
exactly which character build I wanna play with.

Here's what I thought
Str 10
Int 10
Dex 11
Con 9

(skill priority, don't remember the real number)
Stealth +++
Close combat ++
Lockpick ++
Magic +

Is this a viable build? Am I missing something?

Thx!

Building blocks

It sounds pretty much the way I played. Keep strength and object knowledge first though, as that helps with the other skills you would use the stealth and casting for. Also there are some good rings and armor around to help increase stealth and spell casting as you move through the game. Hope this helps. Have fun.

Hi

Can you tell me why object knowledge is important?

I'm thinking of dropping magic if I really need to get object knowledge,
or split points between the two of them.

I guess it's the first time I play a game where I look at the skills and wonder
how I'm gonna get everything I want... everything looks really interesting, and
10 levels seems so little...

Object knowledge

You need strength at 14 and object knowledge at 60 if you want to use the scrolls you'll find and cast the spells you need later. It also lets you make your own potins when high enough. Put a few points into casting at the beginning, but object knowledge increases automaticly increases other skill, like casting. It is sort of a sharing of skills, if one learns one thing , you naturally get better in other areas of life as well. Don't worry to much about the points. I suggest you go to the blacksmiths shop and the store when you reach the city and just point to the objects they have. It tells you what levels of what you need to use them. Your book that came with the game gives you some ideas. If you really want all the details, go to the files and you can find stats on all the stuff in Arx. I use the PDF file, because it has all stats, the walkthrough, all the maps, and a list of all the side quests in one dowmload. Hope this helps. I suggest you keep a save game before you use your points, and then you can go back and change your mind if you don't like what you did.

The easiest road thru the game is as a warrior mage. I didn't find stealth that useful, but it might be just a matter of style. Obj Knowledge is vital however for every character.

True.

I had a Warrior/Mage to begin with, but once I felt the power of fireballs I started moulding into more of a mage, but I could still defend my own once it came down to some hand-to-hand fighting.
