No seriously, Gothic is RPG allright, but the fights are more interactive than in most click-to-kill RPGs, making it more fun to fight in general. If I understand you correctly, it's not RPGs you dislike - it's standing around watching while your character kills something without actually having to do anything(unlike action games, where fighting is the primary focus).
Yes! Yes! That is it! Why do they do that? I played the KOTOR demo right up until they got to a fight sequence, then I uninstalled it. No way is a computer doing my fighting for me, or deciding if I'm good enough to beat someone.
In Gothic I spend half the game killing things that I shouldn't be able to yet, but I learn fighting techniques and strategies that allow me to prematurely deal with beasties like; sneaking up behind shadowbeasts during the day because they're nocturnal, or how to break up a group of orcs into manageable numbers. It requires more thought and interaction.
I also do not want to deal with limited inventories. I don't care if it's unrealistic; there are DRAGONS in this game. And I roll my eyes at the I-am -the-pristine-chosen-one storylines. In Gothic, you are a convict and a smart ass and you never escape that.
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines also plays like an action title (Don't burst my bubble I'm still in denial with this one). It doesn't strike me as an RPG at all. You get guns and sledgehammers and you get to make people explode which is really messy and gross, but fun in a sick kind of way. _________________ A new day, and nothing has changed. |

Exactly, I love fighting in Gothic. It actually requires something of the player, instead of just hack'n slash or click-to-death. |

I'm there with you muteki!
I also can not stand when computer ruins all the fun with stats .I don't like to WATCH.If i wanted to watch I'd rather rent a film. For example nothing sucks more than you can buy a fancy looking shield, but you are unable to BLOCK with it manually like in morrowind.
Like said I dislike it when computer fights on behalf of player with stats.I want to USE the sword myself, block myself, shoot myself, the same way i drink potion or talk to game-characters!That is why games like deus Ex and Gothic rock.I simply hate point, click and watch-type rpg games(althought fallout is an expection). If i can't swing my sword, it will break the immersion for me.
For the same reason like Muteki i didn't find Kotor that great. If kotor had the same fighting system like jedi outcast or academy had it would have been my favorite game all time.
I highly recomand you Severance blade of darkness to you.the fighting system in bod is just briliantt. In fact it has the best sword fighting system i've seen in games.
It takes some learning curve to master it, but once you do it, there is turning back.In fact you start to compare everything to bod _________________ The focused mind can pierce through stone |

Haha, I was halfway reading your post when I thought to myself: Severance.
Amazing that there still hasn't been a game that has been able to beat Severance's fighting system. _________________ "Who are we to call this planet Earth, when it's clearly Ocean."

I've never heard of Severance. I should look into that. I wish they would come out with another Jedi Knight game. They did a really good job with the lightsabers. The guns were pathetic by comparison.
Oh yeah and if it weren't for Gothic I would play something else, but there would be a big empty hole in my heart, and a yearning for something I couldn't describe. And I might send out birthday cards on time instead of not at all. I got a big stack of birthday cards I never sent, but I'm all set for next year. _________________ A new day, and nothing has changed. |

Like that quote, it's the standard saying in G1 when people wake up.
Never played Severance either, but I should probably try it once. |

Heehee yes but I never heard it in the New Camp just the other 2 camps. Did anyone else ever hear it in the New Camp? I figured someone must say it, but you have to be standing next to them at 8:00 to hear it. _________________ A new day, and nothing has changed. |

I am impatient waiting for G3, which means I am bored. Could we have a harmless flamefeast just for fun???
I will start: Maylander is such a weak player he relies on his "friend" Mud for guidance. I think they are MORE than friends, but i can not prove it.....and the sheep thing I will not mention. Flamefeast or not, some things are better left unsaid. Bah BAH! Oh my god BAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
muteki13 can't be flamed. A swampweed addict does not care, so I will move on.
Sem is another matter.....He will not leave my darling Nadja alone. He drinks viagra, ummmmmm, I mean "health" potions like he has more than could ever be used. Get a girl of your own dammit, leave my sweet innocent Nadja alone!
Now we come to Dez......he is more pathethic than me and Maylander combined. What a piece of work he is. He will summon a demon just for fun and watch as all the citizens die a horrible death......OH WAIT, I do that too! Ok he drank the gin during the drinking contest. He ONLY had to replace it with water, but he drank it.......OH wait, I did that too. Umm, ok he turned Sarah in.....oops, I did that. OK, Dez HAD to do something wrong but I don't know about it. If I find out something I will surely flame away, but for now Dez is safe.....not trusted but safe.
Neo is a sheepherder from way back. Why do you think the sheep is waiting outside Xardas' castle, but she won't speak to you........I know who she wants She is loyal to her "man"..............perv!
/me dons his flame proof robe and waits. _________________ Chris: Dad, what's the blow-hole for?

Bod did indeed have tremendous fighting, the player interaction is unmatched to date. The only thing that took away from the game was the fact that you magically teleport into each new zone. For me that destroys the illusion.
Long live gothic.

Aha! The real reason he was so screwed up in the addon! It wasn't a spell, it was Maylander beating on his head! _________________ A new day, and nothing has changed. |
